Last week I showed how I made a Kerfmaker jig. I made it to help me build some drawers, so in this video I'll show how I use it to make those drawers.

I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ru-vid.comUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

Well, I for one love the way you say 'drawer'! I love even more your attitude about it in your responses in the comment section, friendly and down to earth, not taking offense as so many today often do, about everything. I am also a fan of your design choices in all your projects. Take these drawers, for example -- perfectly suited to the application for which you were making them. Not tacked together with brad nails, glue and butt joints like a quick shop drawer, and not the other end of the complexity scale with fine joinery like dovetails, or even an interlocking rabbet joint. Solid bi-directional glue surfaces in the rabbeted corners, reinforced with screws, give all the strength you'll need. Even down to the floating bottom with an exposure in the back to remove it in case it ever needs repair. I used to think people used floating bottoms out of some snobbish loyalty to woodworking tradition, going back to the days when a glued-up solid wood panel could swell with humidity and blow out the corners, a problem that'll never happen with a stable plywood bottom. I stopped all such scoffing the first time I had to cut a glued and brad-nailed bottom off a drawer for a repair, using a junk blade and dressing up the cut with sandpaper, to avoid risking the carbide teeth on my nicer blade. I still make the glued, nailed, butt-jointed variety, but mostly for the shop or other applications where they're quick and dirty, and probably assembled from available scrap, and replaced by same. Anyway, enjoyed the video.... 'draws' and all! :)

Nice ideas in lieu of using a router to make the dadoes and other cuts. Cool as a hobbyist handyman I use a lot of the same tools including some Harbor Freight bar clamps, Ryobi 18g nail gun & many of the same Rockler tools. Although you used plywood for the bottom making it not necessary, cutting a v- groove along the back portion of the drawer and securing it to back "rail" support with wood screws that allows for humidity changes as Rob Cosman does is a good way to secure the bottom. The brass pin example you showed was a simple but actually dressy way vs screws or to half-blind or full dovetails securing the sides the the front. I may just try making a kerf maker modeled after your accreditable design. Thanks for sharing***

You make a great use of small helpers/rulers/gap assists, that you have made by yourself using scrap wood. It will be great if you can do an episode on how to build most helper tools that a starter won’t have to buy from the market and yet it gives great value in terms of alignment and scaling of objects while cutting and building. Another nice demonstration. Good practice measuring between dadoes from the 1" mark rather than from the tape measure hook ... but you do have to remember to subtract that 1". So after 'inching' myself too many times (any builder knows that reflexive verb), I began measuring from the 10. That way your last digit is the same, and you are more likely to catch the mistake if it is 10" rather than 1". Measure from the 10 to 33-5/16, that's 23-5/16.

If you were to have any future failure of the drawer, I think it would be the back edge of the bottom. The pin nails primarily keep it from sliding, but if heavy items are in the drawer, it will eventually start pulling them out in the middle area as the bottom flexes. Screws would be a good option. Keep up the good work.

You can tell the accent with the word 'drawer'. Love your videos. The 'drawer' pronounced as draaawrrr definitely pin points the area of the country. Of course you would think speaking with me when I say 'fixin to' would be a tell also. :)

@@3x3CustomTamar , Hey, thanks for the reply, I watch your channel more than any other wood working channel, and I watch a lot of them, You make learning fun, easy to understand, and you are very talented, such an amazing hobby, or business. I am 61, and just discovered last year I have a passion and apparently some talent making things out of wood. In may of 2019 I was the guy who had a hammer, screwdriver and pair of pliers and didn't use them much, I decided for some reason I needed to make my dogs a ginormous dog house complete with an entrance on each side, 8 feet long 4 feet wide, 5 feet tall with a pitched roof. funky, but it works, then a friend asked me to make her a tomato planter, oh no problem, I made a huge dog house, so I did ,and it took what seemed like forever, I only had a drill at this point so my first few projects were hand cut with just a saw. the planter turned out to look like a piece of furniture, then her Mom wanted one, fast forward to today, I spent 4 months last winter by myself except putting in the power, and I now have a small 13X13 little shop in an old shed on my property that is full with wood working power tools, hand tools, dust collection , air filtration system, it is my zen place, after work I spend 3-5 hours every day doing something, I just love it. and I have pulled off some pretty awesome things. thanks for the added inspiration and knowledge, I have made 2 cross cut sleds, the router jig from watching your channel,
