I agree, MULCH MULCH MULCH! Whatever you have available. In my little farm I have plenty of waste hay my horses trample and it works wonders! We get an EPIC amt of leaves every fall and I chop it up with the mower and leave it on the grass and it breaks down and makes a lovely grass mulch. Thank you for sharing! I learn so much from you!

Nothing like mulch. Natural is always best.

Love your content Pete...I recently moved back to WV and I'm in zone 6a...tried to get a property with some acreage to it but unfortunately we ended up with abt an 2/3 acre...plus our yard is sloped in front and back...we have a huge side yard that's all rock and dirt and weeds. The previous owner removed trees and there's roots coming up all over the place thru the rocks and I no longer can go out and just clean it up...just not physically able. I want raised beds so bad but nobody else seems to understand my urgency for it. Enjoy all your information. Thanks

Can you show us how and when to use Amozite in your raised beds? I love your videos and your wife is a humble hard- working gem.

I usually add Azomite before planting when I'm preparing the soil on the beds.

Howdy Pete! Wow the apple and peach trees look great! I've started collecting my leaves in the fall and using them for mulch as well. Not able to grow anything yet but as least I'm building up the soil. Thanks for sharing - great info as always 🤠

Im very impressed with your garden. Im the other side of Lufkin from you. The 11 inch flood basically drowned everything. It uncovered roots and im fighting to save it. Lots of yellow leaves, Yours looks so lush

We left the leaves all winter. It gets cold here. They needed to protect all the stuff under there.

Hey Pete, look at the video around 2:27 and to the right of the bed you are working in, it looks like a vole is running down the landscape fabric!!!

Pete I'm confused. You taught me all about using the high quality weed fabric to supress the weeds. Once I started using that I finally started winning in my garden. It doesn't look like you're using it except for in your garden paths and with the cucuzza. Why have you given up on the fabric? Or, do you just find it better to use the leaves as a cover? That still looked like a lot of work weeding. I don't weed anymore with my fabric beds.
@petebeasttexashomesteading
@petebeasttexashomesteading Месяц назад
I use both methods. I use the weed barrier cloth for my watermelons, tomatoes and cucumbers and leaf mulch on other things.
@Nikotromus

@@petebeasttexashomesteading - I don't know man. I get demoralized when I don't use weed barrier. The weeds are just out of control and I find myself spending most of my time weeding. The bermuda grass is the worst curprit by far.

Pete can you feed the weeds to your chickens or is that considered a bad idea?

In the summer it gets too hot to constantly weed out there and the weeds go to seed, fall back on the soil and start the vicious cycle.

@@tanyab4059 - That's why I only grow with high quality weed fabric. I don't do any open beds except for carrots and potatoes.
