Up until now the super strong rear winches on Dave's HET Wrecker have been limited to just straight back pulls, but now they are free to apply their pulling power in any angle we want! And they spool up beautifully:)
Hunter: I'm a structural engineer, and I think something that most college-educated engineers don't understand is the practical application of their textbook knowledge. They have no hands-on experience to back up their book learning, and it really shows sometimes. They have no idea how to apply the knowledge to a real-life problem. You may not have a degree, but being an engineer isn't really about that. It's about how your mind works to solve problems, and videos like this just prove you're a better engineer than most I know.
Having a brother that is a mechanical engineer, I have heard these exact same words come from his mouth! I have a business degree, yet chose a profession working in the towing industry, solving problems in different scenarios each day. Hands on experience to me is far more valuable than being textbook smart.
As a boomer, I especially enjoy seeing a young person who trusted himself enough to go after what he wanted to do. And grateful your parents came around!
man loved this video im 23 been working in a welding shop welding heavy and thick steel plates on beams and columns for 5 years now. your a damn good wire welder
Hunter, this is one of the finest fabrications that I've seen. You are a master craftsman, fantastic welder, and designer. Thanks for the great video!!!
Hunter, I hope your parents watch this video and understand what a fantastic talent you are. Your future is bright young man. Now, are you sure the wizard is not your Uncle Alan?
Hunter, you truly are a talented and brilliant asset. I really hope your dreams continue to come true. Keep inspiring others, working hard, and don't loose sight of your own personal goals and dreams. If you haven't already made it big you will my friend.
I sure enjoy watching your building skills. After a spinal injury 40 years ago, left me paralyzed from the neck down. I enjoy watching others do what I can no longer do. I am very fortune that I have wonderful family and staff that care for me. Keep up the good work and God bless.
You know your a good worker when everyone going home and your working like you just started the day still . Keep up the good work just don't burn your self out
That wrecker came from a mile down the road from me. Great folks just like you guys always willing to help out when nobody else will. Great to see it go somewhere it’ll be used !!
Great job! Just don't be heartbroken when D breaks it. As a former armor crewmember and tank mechanic, I've learned that there's nothing that can't be broken.
I saw a welding RU-vid channel where the creator had a welders mask filter that he put each time he fired up the welder. It made the video much easier and enjoyable to watch. I love your videos but have to look away every weld to not kill my eyes. You are definitely my favorite out of the Heavy D crew! Keep being Awesome!
First time I've watched someone weld, from start to finish, fantastic job, your quite an engineer, I'm looking forward to seeing more videos behind the scene as I like watching Heavy D helping everyone, he's hard on equipment but having you there to keep the equipment working is a plus. Looking forward to more of your work.
Excellent work young man ! Weld preps that you used and you ‘manipulated’ the arc are excellent structural fabrication techniques. It was a pleasure to watch your video and I loved your approach. Massive amount of welding and the finished job is superb ! 😊 Would love to see more and I think you may be helping Matt ( Matts Off Road Recovery) with his larger wrecker ….. so, looking forward to that !
Hunter........ I've seen enough of your videos, and of you on HeavyD to know you're a smart young man. This one just super proves that fact. Awesome design work and fabrication. Got a feeling Dave's going to be keeping you around for quite some time. Amazing work Hunter.
@@grandmasfarmlife Absolutely........ And I totally agree. But it's good having Dave as an anchor until he's ready to do his own thing. Just watched HeavyD's video that showed the recovery Hunter was talking about. Pretty awesome seeing Hunter's design in action.
So amazing to see Hunter design, fabricate and fit this. What an extremely talented, skilled guy. Heavy D is lucky to have you and I’m sure he knows it ❤️
I have to say, what a fabulously neat and well laid-out workshop. Marvellous skills, and seeing Dave just gettin' on with business in the shows how much he trusts you.
Great video and work. Really dig the faceplate on the lathe as far as being able to unbolt and flip the jaws. All of mine have to be unscrewed and flipped with the internal spiral gear and can be a real pain if they don’t go back on in the correct order or if they aren’t timed correctly causing the centerline to be off. I’m gonna have to find some chucks like those, definitely a time saver. Again, great work and video! 👍
Wait, Hunter knows how to contruct in Solidworks? And can use the lathe and the CNC plasma table? Wow, this guy is UNSTOPPABLE now!😲 And exactly the fab-daddy that Dave Sparks needs for all his crazy projects... 😎👍
That is an awesome piece of kit Hunter! It’s great being able to watch the Het become what it should have been! Hope the improvements are just getting started
Love watching these build videos. You can't imagine the work involved unless you watch. The effort from design to finish is amazing. You definitely have a gift and found your calling. I personally believe you can make anything as long as you have the time.
Its so good to see a behind the scenes video gives a more in depth view of the reality i am a diesel mechanic from Scotland and i also do some fabrication and its good to watch how there trucks are actually modified and maintained. Amazing work!!
One of the best video I have ever seen on your channel. and I am thrilled that I can track what's really going on watching Alan's, heavyD's and your channel. It feels like a behind the scene videos of "Great" adventurous movie. Loved your videos.🤩 Awesome work hunter
The best thing I see here is that heavy d let you have your own channel on his dime and also piggybacking off his hashtags. I love it. He's a man that understands that "a rising tide lifts all ships" not to downplay your expertise because you are a master of your craft. Keep it up man! You gained a subscriber from me!
Great work Hunter. Would love to see more of this kind of stuff on your channel. I am just starting to get into welding watching you has shown me a lot of stuff tricks.
Awesome work! Being able to visualize the concept in your head, draw it, prep it, and fab it,...well done! It takes a lot of skills to be able to execute a project like this, so I'm glad it all worked as planned.
Dude..... Absolutely love the fab content and the " BUILD IT SO HOPEFULLY DAVE CAN'T BREAK IT" theme is a series i have no choice but to be interested in!
Solidworks has a great sheetmetal package which made a huge impact on my fab'ilities. Also has some great simulations for strength testing cross-members like you've put on the HET. I don't work for or rep them, but I use it everyday at work and in my home shop.
You're living the dream with that workshop, Hunter! I'm still welding on the garage floor with a cobbled-together MIG...every pull of the trigger is an adventure!
AMAZING work, you are so talented, and having every tool imaginable helps, hope in the future Dave gives you your own camera man/Helper. Keep up the good work
I do find it a bit frightening the state that some of their rigging equipment is in. I have seen main winch lines with major kinks and bird cages, slings with knots or abrasions and worn and distorted shackles and hooks. This puts his crew in danger and they already have a rather lax attitude toward safety, at least in the video.
Dude- you are an awesome fabricator !! Excellent video - love the meat and potatoes how you build shiz - so the team won’t break it !! Great video!! Keep them coming !
Looks like you may need to better brace the metal in front of the winches that the back brace is welded to. It doesn’t seem to have enough strength. Also, be sure to add grease zerks to the swivel pipes to help keep them greased. Great work!
Just a tip on turning the tube on the lathe, tack the plate on the end without a hole in it, and chuck it up. Then you can use a hammer and a dial indicator to dial in the end of the tube opposite of the chuck to run straight, and then drill the hole with the lathe tail stock. As long as you're careful, you can usually get away with it. Then it'll be perfectly straight and not have that offset cut that you saw. If it still sags, then after you dial it in and before you drill the hole, mount up the steady rest.
Look into dual shield welding wire. It gets hotter and can lay a much larger bead without needing to zigzag. Also much larger diameter welding wire for faster work.
Nice work Hunter. I'm just jealous about all the equipment in the work shop. I wish to have all this stuff. Stay strong💪 and I can't wait for your next video.
Hey Hunter. Instead of using the flapdisk on that table, another way you and do is by leaving it in the lathe and get a big sheet/ strip of sandpaper (like from a beltgrinder) and just sand it while the lathe turns it. Like when you floss with a towel.😄 Thats how we do it at our shop. Great work dude, keep it up.🤘
Hunter, my man...may I offer you some constructive advice on "Stress Welding Procedures". While .035 mig wire is a good all around wire for many applications, on a Truss assembly as you have build, will take alot of load and stresses at angles, and knowing Dave's infinity for testing the "limits', I would suggest using a .045 Flux core wire, for MANY reasons, one being the heat that is in the weld, during and after the weld, superior penetration. Secondly an .045 will put MORE material into the weld for bonding two pieces, and you will also find the weld will layout like peanut butter. it will look like it was CAST, not look like a "stitch weld". I have spent my life time in the Petroleum Industry building Centrifuges, Hot Oilers, Nitrogen Pumpers, Pressure Trucks, and occasional Drilling Rigs, and they ALL take a beating. I fabricate them from a pallet of laser cut steel, to a complete, on the rig operating million dollar plus piece of equipment, my fab work NEVER comes back for repairs, but have rebuilt/repaired my fair share of other competitors equipment( names withheld). I have been a Welder/fabr for over 30 yrs and work with some of the best, my employer puts me in a corner with a pallet of cut steel, and leaves me be, I work alone, where the rest of the crews, are 2 man teams. Not many people I can work with as my standard and ethics will never allow me to work with lazy morons that never follow procedures, that being said, I know I could work with you, we'd click, get'er done attitude always prevails. I seen how your mind works, and put to CAD, then bangin' it out. Good job Young fellow.
@@alnov91 have you NOT seen HeavyD kill/destroy things, better to OVERKILL, do it once, then have to repair it. They ripped the bed off that wrecker not to long ago, and I guarantee that rig WILL be put through its paces. Never hurts to OVER engineer something. Hunter KNOWS Dave. "Measure Twice, cut once".
Hunter, I find you amazing! Not so much understanding what you do, but it is obvious you know your stuff! I find it like watching a skilled artist working. Truly an amazing young man. I hope you go far in whatever you choose to do.
👏👏👏 Dayum, you made the wrecker look 10x cooler. It’s very nice, I’d love to see more of your projects like these on other cool vehicles. Subscribed. 👍
Hey hunter, I just subscribed to your channel and your dad's as well, I want to donate 2 weeks of my time and come out from California and help Allan with his fortress. I was inspired by all the material Dave brought up and I feel it's God's will for me.
Man, you are really a legend when it comes to fabricate "strong shit" for HeavyD 😆 To watch the process of building it was a pleasure and I did find this very impressive and interesting. Keep up the good work and give your dad Alan a hug from me 😝 Thanks for the video, kind regards from Germany 🇩🇪, Philipp 👋🏻
