In this video, I have started a new DIY project to provide more versatility for my fishing/camping adventures. Able to sleep anywhere is a game changer! I have built drawers for storage. No space wasted. I have gotten ideas from number of videos so wanted to give myself a go. Finishing this project on a low budget was my ultimate goal. If you have some plywood kicking around somewhere, It ll cost you less. With limited tools I had, I managed to make it look presentable lol. I hope this gives someone motivation to do it if you were thinking about it. With little experience with carpentry, it took me longer but this simple truck drawer will get the job done.
Let me know in the comments for more ideas!

I have watched lots of videos getting ideas for my build also. I like this one because it's simplistic and cheap. Some guys go to hard amd instal door track and hidden latches and it just isn't what I'm after. They spend as much money as a decked system would cost and it's still just wood.

You’ve just saved me the best part of 200GBP with that HDPE slider idea. I was going to use 60” drawer sliders, but man they’re expensive. About £100/pair here in the UK. I don’t need the weight capacity, I just needed the length. And this solves this problem. Thanks dude!

Very nicely done. Thaks for sharing. Might be good to add some tie down provisions to the top and perhaps a latch to keep the drawer from sliding open and closed when braking. Also, perhaps a stop so the drawers to limit the travel of the drawers, like a dresser drawer. Again, thanks for inspiring me. I was going to buy a pre-made system ($$$) but I think I'll make mine custom.

Your cutting board idea just blew my mind! I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out an alternative to sliding rails or UHMW (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) since it's so expensive for what it is.

Great job, and thanks for documenting it! I've been planning something almost exactly the same for my Taco, and it was nice to see it in the same truck. I originally planned to use heavy-duty drawer guides but found that they're heavy (60lbs a pair for quality ones) and expensive. Great tip on the cutting boards; much cheaper than HDPE! It was also great to see that you used dimensional lumber for almost everything but for the top and bottom of the box. I wanted to avoid as much ripping down of 4x8' sheets as possible while still lining up with the wheel wells and ledge. One question-do you feel like 1/2" ply for the top of the box would be sufficient to hold two adults without bowing? I used 3/4" ply for another build in a van and have the feeling that 1/2" would've been plenty. Just trying to cut weight wherever I can.

How well did the cutting board material work? Was that the ONLY thing u used for the sliding of the drawers? What about keeping it pull out straight, and not being able to be pulled out all the way? Are those features nonexistent? If you did it all over again, is there anything that you would do differently? Thanks for sharing. Aloha
@Go2fishingbc
@Go2fishingbc 2 года назад
Hi, yes cutting board was only material used. And other drawer i didn’t use it. It seems like it’s much smoother and quieter on the one that didn’t use. Both pretty smooth. I can pull the drawers straight out no issues. If I do it again I wish I could just do the one side and leave one side open since I do camping alone most times. And design something where I could pull the whole setup easier. Not a big deal but something to improve on. Good luck!

Well done. How much sag do they have when pulled all the way out? I was trying to figure out how to use them as a counter for cooking. Have you tried cooking on top of them? Im still in the day dream phase and getting ideas. Thanks!
@Go2fishingbc
@Go2fishingbc 2 года назад
Thank you! It doesn’t sag much but it’s definitely not level when it’s almost fully pulled out. I would get a support at the end like 2x4 wood. My advice would be make it as simple as possible for the whole build. Good luck 🤞:)

FYI... if you ever do another build like this, place your pocket holes on the outside. In this case, the holes cannot be seen as it is in the bed of your truck. There will be more strength in the joint that way. Good looking system you have there.
