This is a great video. I have been working on my feet, ankles, and knees. I'm 51 years old and I refuse to let my body slowly break down. Many men give up at my age. I have been learning so much on youtube, I feel like I'm just getting started. I have healed up from many old nagging injuries with videos like these. You can do it too!!! Keep strectching amd learn some deep breathing excercises. You're as young as you want to be. Oh, and breathwork and stretching also helps that ol' bone, if you know what I mean. Stay focused, stay winning!

This is so true, and what I have been struggling to explain to others. Now I can share this video. Toe alignment is so underrated, that is the key for me (a flat footer) to able to lift my arch so slightly off the ground (need to roll ankle outward), and once I can do that, no more lower back and arch aches from standing for long period. And I need a firm base footshape zero drop shoes to do that. While I enjoy the cushioning of Altra Escalante Racer as opposed to VFF V-Run and other minimalist footwear at times, they still give me a tiny bit of sensation at the arch if I am in them for too long. My take is no matter how firm the cushioning, I am not able to balance as well as without

This is a great video quality info that’s easy for the layperson to understand combined with phenomenal visuals and editing 👏. One clarification with the foot/ankle test. You say “activating the intrinsic foot muscles” which is true, but it’s the long flexors of the deep posterior compartment stabilizing the ankle as the intrinsic foot muscles do not cross the ankle joint. And those are activated by toe curling, which is often done in compensation for poor intrinsic foot muscle ability. However, it is a nice way to help the layperson understand how important the foot is to the ankle.

Thank you, this gives interesting insights into the mechanics of our legs. (Though it tries to sell shoes at some point ... sponsorship, I understand.) After years of walking barefoot I noticed my arches raising higher (to the point that the print of my heel and forefoot is unconnected when I walk with wet feet on flat ground). The stabilizing muscles became a lot stronger, so I'm unlikely to sprain my ankle (it hasn't happened in a long time). What I can't do though is a deep squat with my heels on the ground while still keeping my balance and not falling over to the back. I guess I need more daily stretching of the whole chain along the back of my leg to increase mobility there? As a side note, changing my gait when walking downhill (land on the forefoot, soft in the ankle, soft in the knee) helped me get rid of the knee pain that I occasionally had before.

Great video. I have two questions: 1)-i have one leg longer than the other causing lower back pain. So my doctor made me wear these 1 cm thingies in the shoe of my shorter leg to even the legs and hips out. He said i shpuld wear them i.e. th e thingy in the shoes all the time incl. at home. So how can i fulfill that while going barefoot as u suggest. i need the shoes. Any workarounds? 2) can u recommemd shoes that match the human foot shape so one doesnt get the problems u mentioned? Thanks!

I have a fallen arch and my big tors are like this, when I squat my right knee comes inward. I am a runner and I never noticed anything until I got a stress fracture on my fibula, I went to physio who said it's strange to get it on your fibula, but after noticing a fallen arch he said this may be the cause, is it possible that my fallen arch causing my ankle to fall inwards put pressure on my fibula

Well there are 4 sides and 3 sides geometry pyramid, they're both called pyramid and what they showed in the video is the 3 sides one and not the 4 sides. They would be wrong if they showed a four sides illustration, so there's nothing wrong with that. 3 sides pyramid is also a solid base.

@@barefootstrength I liked the old thumbnail better. The comparison with the slanted and straight foot told me more than this triangle in the foot in the new one. I was also able to compare the old picture more to myself because my feet are also slightly slanted like in the first picture. The new picture with the tripod foot doesn't say anything to me because I'm not familiar with the whole subject and seems a bit more clickbait-like to me.

Birchbury shoes appear to be cutting off the big toe in the name of preserving some aesthetic that doesn't serve the human body. Screw the traditional aesthetic. Plenty of barefoot shoes out there (Vivo, Be Lenka, Freet, and Splay...just to name a few) providing a new idea behind shoes, that will be healthy and trendy 😄

I actually agree with you. However, after many years in this game, I've realized that there are a lot of people out there who won't budge because of the change in aesthetic. So, I believe that there is a market for these types of designs. And hey, if these shoes can get them started on the road to barefoot shoes, then we have done our job :)

The widest Vivobarefoots in the toe and forefoot areas are those in the Soul of Africa range. The stitching tends to came undone if you run in them, and grip is not so good in the wet, but great for walking on dry surfaces.
@romanro4316
@romanro4316 9 месяцев назад
But cushioned trainers are great on hard surfaces, they imitate softer contact surfaces and help people who have MSK conditions which can’t be repaired via muscle strengthening, to walk and run easier. Minimalist shoes aren’t for everyone.
@steve9377
@steve9377 9 месяцев назад
There are studies out there that say feet slam down harder in cushioned shoes due to the lack of proprioception. Check out the research from the Spaulding National Running Center at the Harvard Medical School
@romanro4316
@romanro4316 9 месяцев назад
@@steve9377 how good are the studies? Secondly, if tissue stress is reduced by cushioned shoes, then even if that were statistically true, then it wouldn’t result in more peak impulse force. You are likely referring to mid/forefoot running vs heel strike.
