How to Build Up GRIPS to a Bigger Size

Do you want to increase a standard grip size so the it has a bigger diameter? If you do this can be done very easy by following these simple steps by building up the grips using masking tape under the grips. You can remove and saving your golf grips, if you can do this without damaging them. Can makes this a cost effective way in which to get bigger grips without spending money on new grips.
By having the correct grip size, it will help you play better golf, hit the ball further and straighter. Having the right size grip is important as the grip is your if you are serious about playing great golf.

Excellent video. I presume your using masking tape to build the layers up? I’ve just got some general painting masking tape which isn’t particularly strong adhesion wise, will that be sufficient? Or am I better getting some “high tack” masking tape?

I just use 2inch 3M 101E, I guess it would be very similar,

Hi i wanted to regrip my golf clubs myself to give it a try. Just a question. To rebuild the size will a normal masking tape do or I need exactly the 3M ones?

3M has a consistent thickness others maybe thinner and may require more layers to build it to the size you require.

amazing, thank you! how many layers of tape do i need to build .0570 shaft end to 0.600? I use midsize grips but when i put it on my clubs they felt almost like regular then I realized my new shafts where 0.570. Can you help me please?

Morning. The reason why they feel like a regular grip is that the butt size of the shaft doesn’t match the core size of the grip. It will therefore mean you will need more layers of tape. For regular you usually need 4 plus tape if the grip size is 0.58 and shaft is 0.58. You may need an extra 2 or 3 to make up for the difference but it would depend on the grip size. Whst grip size are you using?

@@darrenarbergolf hi, I'm using 0.600 midsize grips, but I installed them on 0.570 shafts by mistake. I need to build up the 0.570 shaft to 0.600. Do you know how many tape layers will do that? cheers mate!

You will need quite a few to build the shaft diameter up to 0.600. Do you have any callipers? I would try to build the shaft size and measure with each layer of tape. I would check when I get to work, but a rough estimate would be 5/6, so that the midsize grip will be midsize on the shaft.

When I played them I quite liked them. My bad shot generally was left, found that the grips helped reduce that

leave for a couple hours? Ive regripped a club or two in the parking lot of the golf course.

Yes I would always leave for a couple of hours for the white spirit to evaporate. Never gone out to play with a grip which I’ve just put on, just a little concerned it would move and then go out of alignment.

How would I tape the lower half of the club to reduce the taper. I can't get the reduced taper offerings from lamkin or golf pride shipped to my location for a reasonable price. And I want to try it on just one club to see if I like it .

If you want to make it like a golf pride plus 4, just put cut strips of masking tape on the lower section of the grip. I might do a video to help.

Also I wear a cadet small glove. So I am going to build up the lower half of an tour velvet undersize. Impossible for me to find undersize plus 4 grips .

When you pop in we will measure your current grips against your hand size. So you get the right size.

Why don’t you remove the “wax” tape from the double sided tape? Or is there different type off tape?

It is a different type of tape, it is just to build up the grip size.

@@darrenarbergolf I have seen a lot of videos where people just add the tape and then slide on the grip. So I was thinking if the liquid dissolved the protective paper on the tape. But it could be as you say. That it disappears in the editing
