Wanted to say thanks so much for introducing me to the world of watches, as a 23 year old man who works in healthcare (thereby needing to be bare below the elbows) I had always assumed quality watches were out of my price range and frankly an indulgence i could ill afford. I had looked at many of my grandfather's watches and been impressed at the craftsmanship and detail, however didn't see a way for me to be involved in the hobby. I strongly feel the points you have made in previous videos regarding traditional brands failing to engage the younger consumer are accurate, and (controversially) think the Seiko 5 Sports models are a noble attempt to engage this otherwise untapped market. Thanks to your channel i am the proud owner of two lovely Casio Edifice watches and have my first automatic, an Orient Mako 2 on the way!
Is anyone else concerned that TGV just said that he secretly wants to be Patrick Bateman? Do you even like Huey Lewis and the news? I'd stick around for your answers but I have to go return some video tapes.
My main concern would be those who swap out movements or other parts undetectable under general inspection, my local authorized Rolex dealer warned me about this many years ago...but great video as always TGV. Bravo!
😁Yes I bought some cool shaving gear from Ebay in USA and it was send to me i Europe, I payed all the tax and shipping. It was totally rubbish and complete waste of money. Can only blame myself, happy it wasn't a used luxury watch though.
@@larsstougaard7097 convenience shopping at home has lured many people into parting with their hard earned money, for total trash or stuff they don't need and never initially wanted to buy anyways.
I got ones on ebay a volvo gas lit discontinued for 25 years Jackpot lol also I got a 40 year old Mercedes center consol arm rest in Nos conditions. Ebay is the best thing like arroz con frejoles Carne asada y Maduro frito going back to watches I hit the jackpot this year I got a blue citizen courageous signature edition for 80 bucks...they didn't specify the model on the title so no one bid but me lol sorry hard to add another comment.
Totally agree it’s so easy to buy from you’ve definitely got to use knowledge and self control 🤙🏻. Just picked up a vintage G Shock 5000 love it but you have to be conservative and patient.
Once more iam holding the comments section hostage. But i have to say (again), everone should be watching this channel. No one else talks like that. They want to seem like they get these watches just because they're so recognizable so companies just magically send watches. LOL. but you keep it real, I do the same thing. Iam addicted to looking at watches on ebay. Thanks again.
This is just my single Rolex in my collection (black dial just not tapestry) left to me after my dad passed so I'll never sell it. Now a days it is not as flashy as it used to be in the 80's, easier to wear every day, it introduced me to smaller sizes, has so much class, dare I say it? Pure Class!
Good evening TGV, the intro put a huge smile on my face😁This video transfers so much knowledge, wether one buys his or hers first luxury watch, or one is an avid watch enthusiast/collector. Have a great evening! Best regards!
@@qchang09 I remember having a conversation back in the mid 90s about investing in Yahoo or google at the time. Oh, if 15 year old me actually had my foot in the door..! :)
I am very busy today, so I will watch this video another day, but I will let you know that I bought a Hamilton Khaki by watching one of your older uploads. What a watch! Thanks for your nice videos as always
What!?!? Two uploads in one week! Yeah! Excellent. Thanks much, TGV! Very glad to see this as I had NO idea this service was even in existence.....Eat your heart out, Which (watch) Box!.....yes, I know, perhaps ungentlemanly, but at least you know us Gentry are always there with you! Onward and Upwards, my friend!
The authentication is an Awesome offering… I very much I’ve been contemplating buying an omega speed master and eBay has by far and away the best pricing… Can’t wait to use this feature! For the great info TVG!
YESSSSSS!!!! My fave too, I watch it almost every night, it always puts me in a good mood. Thank you Jamie, you have great taste in TV shows. Best regards, TGV
I won’t ever use eBay again. I used to buy and sell on eBay until I was scammed as a seller. Buyer claimed it wasn’t what was described (vintage DJ36) and even after showing all my proof, eBay/PayPal sided with the buyer. When I refunded the money, I didn’t get back my box and papers or my original TT bracelet - was sent a fake bracelet. When I brought it up with eBay, they said they can’t do anything about it. That’s when I started using forums and Reddit, best thing to ever happen. No dumb fees either.
Wow thanks I’m a 19 year old and you got me into watches hopping to get a Hamilton khaki field for my 20th thanks for the video and say hello to the star Hugo
Great choice! I can’t speak for the Hamilton Khaki King field having never held one in the flesh but my first watch was the Hamilton Pilot Khaki King and it is an amazing watch. Hamilton seams to be a brand you can’t really go wrong with.
Just picked up an older aqua terra with the authentication for just under $3000. Super pumped. Buying on eBay isn't so bad. Selling is a nightmare and I do not recommend. I've had too many idiots buy my watches and I end up paying for their mistakes because they have no clue what they are doing. Example I had one idiot buy a black 1545 maxi dial and after I sent it he asked me if it was blue. Like, no dummy it's clearly listed as black and squale doesn't make the maxi in blue. Had to wait 2 weeks to get it back so I could re list it. Facebook is even worse though. If people disagree with your asking price, they post the most rude comments bashing your sale.
@@theurbangentry my only question is when eBay revises each watch, do they authenticate the whole watch? How they know the inside of the watch doesn’t have other movements? Or something not from Rolex factory. Love your channel! Hopefully I can get a response!
Deffo going to check out more of your content, LOVE movies, such a big part of my life. Watching your Fallen Kingdom review as we speak. Keep up the good work. Thank you my friend. Best regards, TGV
I bought my seiko sla 021 on eBay came just like your Rolex i was very pleased with my marinemaster 021 great vid my good chap and love your vids thanks for your Awesome research on these Amazing watches
Fantastic...if you had said to me, 'You will enjoy a video about shopping on eBay', I would have called you crazy! TGV, my wife would like that superpower to make me enjoy shopping with her!
Thank you for your video bud. I was planning to buy an omega planet Ocean, but I was always skeptical and scared of doing it on eBay.But thanks to your video i'm gonna pull my trigger🎉
Super good and very useful video. Love it! I’m wishing you the best my friend and congrats on that magnificent piece. Quality content as usual. Have a good one!
Thanks this is very helpful, always a worry buying off ebay, great to see you team up on the live chat with Russel the other week. keep up the great videos by the way.
I have an idea on how to get the new generation (gen z) into watches: Team up with the watch community and make videos about watches for young people like the Seiko 5 sports, or the citizen eco-drive. Then maybe make an ad on Instagram, or like a # something. So that if they click it, it will interest them. Also go with modern-designed watches, like sports or dive watches, because that is mostly what will interest them, and say to stay away from fashion watch companies, and companies like vincero and filippo loretti. Also include watches about both guys and girls. Anyway, just some ideas to help grow the watch community in the world.
As always great video again by TGV, actually impressed by the Ebay touches , but am i the only one who doesn't have an "Authenticity Guarantee" option after filtering price etc ? Authorised Dealer is the closest? Must be a USA thing.............
I just love your goofy bloopers intro - and Hugo, of course. Not enough laughs in the world elsewhere so we really need a bit of 'craziness' right now. Keep it up.
Stunning watch. Love the dial, it definitely exudes 80s style which like you, being a child of the 80s, is definitely right up my alley 👌. Definitely seems a good service to those looking to purchase a luxury watch. Enjoy the ⌚ sir
Great RU-vid channel That for the information on buying watches on eBay . Congratulations on your Rolex Have a great and safe 2021. My regards to Hugo !
You have no idea how happy that makes me feel, that is precisely why I made this video. Happy hunting and enjoy every second! Thank you and best regards, TGV
Awesome insight my friend! Your advice over the years buying used have certainly helped me with my watch purchases!!!! Gag reel at the start is what I wanna see more!;)
Thank you Russ :D I am just half way through watching your latest show with Joe, absolutely loving so far. You two are great, I love the respectful honesty, you crack me up too. Stay safe and well my friend. Best regards, TGV
Hi TGV Secretly wants to be P. Bateman...oh, oh😆 Anyway, thanks for the good advice concerning EBay. My impression is that a lot of people complaining about being scammed in this market place could have avoided that if they had known about the possibility’s. So, valuable tips indeed... Love that tapestry dail on the Rolex. Keep up the good work, mate👍
I’ve heard lots of stories about the authenticators losing parts, or the whole watch. A question is, do you trust the EBay authenicator to know the nuances of a vintage Rolex
As a result of your video, I've decided to pull the trigger on a watch that's forever been on my Ebay watchlist. This did the trick. (And wouldn't you know it: a two-tone Datejust.) Thanks, Chief.
Yes indeed. Had wanted a Longines A7 and bought a limited edition through this process. Slowed arrival less than a week. And now have the certification card if I want to trade up. And have since bought an IWC 5454, also certified. A great process. Thanks for showing it off. I’m a big fan of the channel. Roll on and stay healthy. You are gem among gravel.
The watches that are dearest to my heart are my late father's 1972 Omega Constellation, and my late uncle's 1980 Rolex Submariner in stainless steel. I love your channel TGV! Most of the watches I've collected--12 at last count, with 3 more on the way, I collected with your advice. Thank you for your incredible insight on this awesome hobby called horology.
Hello TGV just a thought if you can do a series of videos on affordable watches i am sure due to pandemic people purse must be quite tighter nowadays i think it would be a great idea.
TGV the watch looks fantastic and congratulations sir lol I think Tony Soprano would give you his approval on the two tone Rolex and the track suit 😊👍🇮🇹
Congratulations my friend, great video love the new piece, enjoyed and wear it in good health, Ebay is be coming an icon to the watch community in my opinion, I have visited and buy many pieces from Ebay 👍👍is great way owning the real thing with the out any affiliate problems....
Nice purchase TGV. I have a Rolex Datejust model 16220 (stainless steel) with a grey tapestry dial. I have been looking for a nice 16233 gold/stainless model with the gold tapestry dial to add to my collection. Just waiting for the right watch to come along. Glad you are still wearing the Stone Island tops! Best wishes from Nottingham U.K.
Really enjoy your videos TGV, specially the background music. It's almost like your in a luxury lounge of some sort talking amongst friends, with a nice cigarr and a brandy/whiskey 😁. What's your thoughts about the new zenith Chronomaster, would love if you could do a review on it 😁.
Hi TGV, hope you're doing well Very nice and interesting video, because since 7months i learning about ebay, idon't bought a watch from there until now but I do spend a lot of time looking on a nice piece. Thanks mate, i will use your advices soon
Oh my god!! That's exactly the watch that I want to buy maybe when I finish my phd or when I have a big success in my business. I want to be a special occasion and this will be my first rolex!! Now I have a seiko datejust 80s style to alleviate the pain that I don't have yet my dream watch!!! 😅
Great video and tip for authentication, really helps. Living in Europe using eBay doesn't really help, anything coming from outside they add VAT % on that and it just kills any price leverage we might get by using eBay. If you can suggest a place to buy watches in EU, web shop that ships from EU, would be great help.
Good evening tgv good to see you again, congratulations on your new purchase looks fantastic with the stoney, keep safe and stay well out there, your friend Ryan. O&U .
Thank you Ryan, it's got me feeling like Clive "Bex" Bissell in full 80s mode. I just need a nice new Fila tracky now to complete it ;-) Stay safe too brother. O&U! Best regards, TGV
