THINGS I FORGOT TO COVER:
1. CHECK IF PHONE IS LOCKED TO A NETWORK!
Settings - General - About - Service Provider Lock
2. CHECK IF PHONE HAS HAD PARTS REPLACED GENUINE OR NON GENUINE
If your iPhone has been repaired, a Parts and Service History section appears in Settings - General - About. The parts will be shown either as having been repaired with a genuine Apple part or with an unknown part.

Now for the critical checks:
Check the battery health % in Settings , Battery Health , Battery Health & Charging.
Under 80% is still ok, even though apple recommend the battery now be replaced.
Personally, i wouldn’t buy a phone below 75% battery capacity.
But if the price is right for you and there is still a couple years of IOS updates remaining, why not.
Try to charge the phone. Bring a battery and cable with you.
Can you insert your Sim card? Bring a paper clip to pop the sim card tray.
Try to make a call. Call a friend or a second phone or the seller.
Try to receive a call. Ask a friend to call you straight back or call from your test phone or ask the seller to call you.
Check the model is the same as the sellers description. Settings, General, About, Model name.
Check the storage. Settings, General, About, Capacity.
Check the loud speakers work by changing volume.
Check the camera, front and back by taking test photos.
Check the face id can be setup. iPhone will warn you if there is an issue. a damaged FaceID means the phone has been dropped or is water damaged.
Check the Wi-Fi. Connect to another phone hotspot if need be.
Has it been wiped? A factory reset means all content and settings have been removed.
Has it been signed out of apple iCloud. Settings, Apple ID. If not, the seller can track you, and you wont be able to purchase apps or use location services.
Have you checked if the phone has been reported as lost or stolen using the Australian database: amta.org.au/check-the-status-...
You will need the IMEI number to do this. Do it yourself in person. The IMEI number is on the box the phone came in, but since a seller could give you another box check it from the device itself in: SETTINGS - GENERAL - ABOUT
CHECK DEVICE SUPPORT AND COVERAGE if seller claims there is factory warranty remaining: checkcoverage.apple.com/
No support is fine if you can still download iOS updates.
Once the phone reaches end of life, no more iOS updates, you will not receive security updates and the latest app updates will eventually stop.
Eventually you won’t be able to download your favourite apps.
The apps you already have on your phone may work or functionality may start to become degraded.
Be prepared to buy the accessories you require. Lightning cable for charging, a matching power adapter USB-A or USB-C, and any headphones. Sometimes you will get lucky and the seller will include the box and all original accessories.
A case that offers camera protection and drop protection is a must!
Tempered glass screen protectors do save the screen from sharp scratches and from shattering but if you are driving and using the phone for navigation and wearing polarised sunglasses you are going to wish you never installed a screen protector. Visibility can be reduced or impossible from some angles.
