HOW TO: Cadillac Rear Differential Bushing CTS STS 

Ahhh hell no. I thought this would be a simple bushing to replace

I came to see what needed done and I'm now completely overwhelmed. My mechanic will be doing this. I've had several estimates from 1700 to 800 which included diff plug.

Most of this work is not needed. You only need to pull the 3 bolts holding the diff. It will drop down far enough for you to replace that single front diff bushing. Easy peasy. Have done several of these. About an hour or so including a bunch of breaks.

How long would you say this can go on or what’s the long term effect of this never being treated? Complete boss for the video tho💪 must be a common ass thing with the 3.6

How similar is this to a 2007 cts cadillac? I'm trying to understand the process to apply to my car to replace it's bushing.

I’m lucky because mine doesn’t bang lol. The bushing has gone bad where I can feel it in the drivetrain, but not terribly. My mechanic quoted $1000 just in parts

Is this diff the same in both engines 3.6 and 4.6?

Vaseline is propylene glycol based, that’s the last thing you want touching your rubber bushing(s). It will cause the rubber to swell which will cause it to tear.

I have a 06 caddy sts 3.6 rear wheel drive n have to replace my rear differential..do u need a "special tool"?

Would you do this job without a lift ?

My car has been banging into gear for months. It’s been drivable so I’ve ignored it. However, the last few weeks it’s been getting worse and now doesn’t move. It was giving similar symptoms as a bad tranny and progressively getting less responsive and not shifting properly. Could changing the bushing help or is the bushing strictly to just stop the bang noise?

Cost?

Anyway to do it without taking the diff out
