How to Calculate TPN Part 1: Dextrose 

In this video I review Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and the role of IV dextrose
Remember: D5=5% dextrose or 5 grams per 100mL.
Quick fact: 1mL of fluid weighs 1 gram. So 5 grams of dextrose in 100 grams of water is 5%. But typically we describe water in terms of volume, not weight, so you will see mL, rather than grams, for water.
D5=5% dextrose or 5 grams per 100mL or 50 grams per liter (or 170kcals as dextrose per liter)
Dextrose is 3.4kcals per gram
