In this video we will be calibrating our Rapt Pill for Cider Making. I recommend doing an advanced calibration as it makes the readings from the Pill more accurate.
The Rapt Pill is very difficult to get in the US right now. Some options to purchase are Ali Express or some Canadian Vendors which have them in stock.
To do an advanced calibration you need two liquids of known gravity. For this we will be using some store apple juice and some sanitizer.

Neato, nice to be able to check gravity without messing with a sampling cylinder or breaking any more hydrometers. Keep showing us cool stuff!

Looks like great technology. Just a note - when calibrating most instruments, you want to use end points outside the range of values you expect to be measuring after calibration. So, in this example (assuming the calibration curve is a straight line between 1.000 and 1.050), you would get correct readings between these two end-points. However, if you intend to measure gravities well above 1.050, you might want to choose a higher second point.

Agreed! The way this works is by making a best fit polynomial. Not only does expanding the range increase accuracy, but more data points does too! The Rapt Pills have an additional custom calibration method where you can put up to 5 points to make a 5th degree polynomial. If you're looking for high accuracy, that and expanded range will be the best bet!
