Every ADAM Audio A Series monitor contains an embedded platform on the loudspeaker's DSP that can store calibration filters created in SoundID Reference by Sonarworks. This means that once the SoundID Reference profile has been transferred to your speakers, no further software or VST is required to benefit from the custom calibration.
In this video we explore the calibration process from start-to-finish, and share details on the extend 60-day SoundID Refence trial for A Series customers.

ADAM Audio was founded in March 1999 in Berlin. Since then the company has been developing, manufacturing and distributing loudspeakers in the field of Professional Audio.
The development of the X-ART (eXtended Accelerating Ribbon Technology) tweeter based on the 1960's invention of the Air Motion Transformer by Oskar Heil was largely responsible for the company's founding. Producing sound not with a piston-like diaphragm as is done in most of the loudspeakers that are on the market, but using a pleated diaphragm that is capable of moving the air 4 times faster than the folds themselves are moving was the appealing idea behind it all. The achieved results were intriguing and gave ample reason for moving forward.

This is absolute genius congrats. As a long time user of Sonarworks and owner of the older P11As, this makes me VERY tempted to get the 3 way A series for our control room. I use Sonarkworks to help flatten the response and have a complicated setup where our SSL loops back into pro tools so that I hear room correction while tracking and monitoring through the board. The compromise of this is the additional latency, I have to turn off room correction if I’m tracking in the control room or only correct the playback. I know Genelec and other manufacturers have their own similar system but using Sonarworks that I know and trust is fantastic. Congrats, this is a great idea well executed.

When taking measurements from the Sonarworks app, what settings should be set on the speaker DSP? I'm assuming we should calibrate from the pure settings is that right? What if I took my mesures from the UNR settings? Maybe that should be clarified. Edit : Ok I got my answers in the comments bellow. So yes make measurements with pure setting.

Hi Cole! As you see we have brought out the A Series with an included Sonarworks integration at launch because it was a ground-up design that included this feature from the start of the project. For the S Series we have to retrofit this feature to an existing product and that has proved to be harder than expected when the cooperation was first announced. We cannot promise any timeline right now but please keep watching ADAM Audio for any possible future announcements.

i’ve done the calibration correctly with sonarwork sound id reference, and i have the measurement file, however there are few problems. 1) in sound ID reference i can’t export the file of the calibration 2) from a control when i go to: load sound ID preset, i can’t choose the file of the calibration. i also noticed from your youtube tutorial on the A control that the actually software for calibration ‘Sound ID reference’ it’s called slightly different and it has a slightly different interface, and in the tutorial it show that you can export the calibration for the A series , however in my sonarwork sound ID reference this option it’s not appearing if i right click on the A7V calibration.

Hi ! the fact we are exporting 0 db profile will not give us bass boost if we're lacking bass ?
@ADAMAudioBerlin
@ADAMAudioBerlin Год назад
Hi Louis, strong dips in the bass region are a result of so-called room modes, The superposition of sound waves leads to the cancellation or amplification of the overlapping amplitudes. If you now amplify the bass signal, the reflected signal is also amplified, which only leads to more cancellation. At the same time, the addition of the wave at another point in the room is amplified even further. Therefore we advise using the 0 dB export function and treating massive dips in the bass range with positioning and room acoustics. If you decide that you want to use another mode, feel free to do so but we strongly advise using the 0 dB boost export option.

Because there is no 'open file' function anywhere. Also, to the left of the Sound ID window, the message 'No outputs added yet' and 'Click here to add a new output'. I assume this setting is not relevant if I am exporting the file to A-Control and my A7V monitor - is this correct? Thanks 🤞

@ADAMAudioBerlin
@ADAMAudioBerlin Год назад
@@francoisbeauvais4323 Of course. We recommend this option, because if there is a dip in the bass it is most likely coming from an acoustic cancellation in the room, caused by a reflection. The 6/12 db boost options use not only subtractive, but also additive equalization. If there is cancellation due to a room mode it cannot be EQ’ed out with boost. This only increases the cancellation. If you want to use this option however you can of course do so. All the best!

Great video! I was testing things on my A8Hs with the No boost options as well as the normal 12dB boost profile. Why is it not recommended to use these boosted profiles? I know that if I have a boost the null with EQ (70Hz), it will cancel anyway, but I do hear the boost, and sounds better. Also, I love the low end applied to the lows, which get closer to the UNR profile. Thank you!

Hi Eduardo! If there is a dip in the bass it is most likely coming from an acoustic cancellation in the room caused by a reflection. This cannot be EQ’ed out with boost. This is why we do not recommend using boost however this does not stop you from using it if you really want to.

I'm curious to know why you recommend selecting "No boost". I've been comparing the diferent boost setting back to back and they sound fairly diferent in my system. If I do select the boost function my bass seems to be more consistent and I hear more high end. The problem is, that I have no clue witch of both is closer to an actual "flat" response. I feel like the lower frequencies have become more even but I'm not sure if the highs also did or if they are now boosted too much...

@murrayj7636 Год назад
@@ADAMAudioBerlin Thanks for the reply. I really want to purchase the A8H, they look great and it’s a killer idea but do have reservations still. Could you elaborate further on the addition of a sub and the signal chain? My room for example needs some correction from 80hz and below (I have room treatment already) even if the monitors are calibrated with sonar works active, the low frequencies will not be produced by the monitors, right? The signal would have already gone through the sub and crossover frequency point before it reaches the speakers. Therefore this leaves the low frequencies without any correction eq? Appreciate your time and response!
@ADAMAudioBerlin
@ADAMAudioBerlin Год назад
Hi Murray! For a system with an analogue subwoofer, we would just need to calibrate the loudspeakers using Sonarworks and tune them as desired. Next, we could bring the subwoofer into the system in the normal way. We will have to use a slightly different phase setting compared to integrating with an analogue loudspeaker that has no latency, but that does not make it wrong. The volume control will have to be done in the source equipment, not in A Control. When comparing using some A7Vs with a Sub or only a pair of A8Hs, we could say that there are advantages and disadvantages in adding the Sub... Advantages: lower LF cut off frequency, reduced distortion, higher low frequency headroom, increased placement flexibility. Disadvantages: the additional bass management filtering adds group delay around the crossover frequency. In very good rooms and with good ears and revealing material, this can be audible. Usually adding a subwoofer is a good thing but it needs to be set up properly to get the maximum benefit. :)
@AlexTritok
@AlexTritok Год назад
What about the phase option in SoundID , can it be replicated in the DSP of the Adam (linear phase or mixed) ?
@ADAMAudioBerlin
@ADAMAudioBerlin Год назад
Hi Alex! We use a custom set of BiQuad filters to read Sonarworks calibrations on A Series monitors. These filter sets operate with ultra-low latency across all monitors in the range, with an average of 1,6 ms no matter what calibration mode is active on the monitor.
@AlexTritok
@AlexTritok Год назад
@@ADAMAudioBerlin What does it mean ? Is the phase response with calibration linear , or maybe mixed ? Does pre-ringing occur when using the sonarworks calbration read by the DSP ?
@ADAMAudioBerlin
@ADAMAudioBerlin Год назад
Hi Alex! BiQuads are easy to compute, so that we achieve the low latency we have on our A Series monitors - and the latency stays the same across all modes. BiQuads are not linear phase. Due to the transformation into BiQuads, pre ringing does not occur.

So ... another real world review. I exported my Sonarworks calibration and uploaded them to the A7V (individually as I dont have a hub or extra cables - it works). But I wasn't happy with the sound - it seemed dull. I then just ran the SoundID calibration on my mac and switched the A7V to UNR more, and they sounded much better. This, for me, seems to be the better combination. Not 100% sure what UNR does, but that in combination with the SoundID calibration seems to sound WAY better. Maybe not completely flat (as I like a bit more Bass - but hey, thats exactly why one can customize right?) Perhaps there is a way in the future to combine both (UNR+SoundID) so that they can be embedded directly onto the monitors. Either-way, very happy with the way the A7V's sound.
