Great tutorial, Patrick! I stopped using the armband as it slips off when you wipe out or get head dips. I lost 2 tags in the past. So, I just tuck the tag under the sleeve of my wetsuit and it's been working great. I also noticed that the tag is not actually waterproof. Some tags may get the water in and then it quickly dies. I suggest to put the tag into small zip lock to extend the lifetime. Cheers!

I've tried tucking that tag in my wetsuit once without the armband when I accidentally left it at home and it did not go well. I think that if the tag is obstructed in any way it loses its signal strength. I'm glad it works for you, but I had no such luck.

nice, perfect tutorial. I have the 3 with the 65 lens. On mine, I noticed that I have to update the unit and tags once in a while. I'm thinking it needs updated data/positions on the satellites, but I'm not sure. My camera will work perfectly for months and then one day, I'm out of frame. Until I update the tag, it won't recenter. I noticed this happens for me at certain times of the year but I have not documented it so I'm not 100% sure that's correct. I may be thinking that its timely but maybe it's selective perception. Anyways, the only thing I don't do is the zig zag which I'll try. Thanks for posting. One thing I am excited to get once my solo dies or needs upgrading is the 3+. I love the idea of a one spin calibration, not having to watch everyone catching waves while I'm sitting on the beach just watching. LOL this youtube algo is rather odd. you posted this 10 months ago but this is the first I'm seeing it. haha

I hope some of this helps out. I’ve been following your stuff for a few years. Super informative and motivating. I’ve definitely got my eye on the Soloshot 3+. I know they’ve taken orders, just don’t know of anyone who’s gotten theirs yet.

@@Surf_Vidz @Stublen1138 My buddy bought one (upgraded) super early on and he still hasn't gotten his. I also question if it can really do what it says it can. 1 Spin calibration seems too good to be true. LOL Something really odd, I have the most difficulty with my Camera at Uppers Trestles. 4 out of 5 times, it points north of my position. almost every time at Uppers, I have had to just point it straight, recording manually, and surf in front of the camera; rather than track me. Anyways, I'll try that zig zag, that makes a bit of sense. The last time I went out, the camera started off position but after surfing a while, and because of currents, I had to basically cross my camera several times. the back half of my sesh was perfectly centered. One last thing. something I hate and maybe you have had or figured out the issue. The focus. It will be perfectly focused and really no need to refocus but literally the camera will forcus at the worst moment possible: off the lips and top turns. So annoying. LOL Anyways, glad I saw your channel.

🤘🏻after a year of soloshot i decide to get the power bank! I was going to get the one you suggested but amazon pointed me to the newer version of the same. GAMECHANGER! surfed 3 hours on saturday didn’t even make a dent in the battery life!!! Crazy!!! here’s the link: Power Bank 10000mAh, Ultra-Compact High-Speed Charging Portable Charger, Smallest and Lightest External Battery Pack Compatible with iPhone 12 11 X Samsung S10 Google LG iPad and More-Black

Tip: You can hit pause from the tag itself by hitting the + button. This way you don’t have to wait to walk back to the camera and do it.

Another option is to hold the + sign on the tag until you see a rapid blinking light. It will pause your session and write a file. I find that easier than the option on the video 🤙🏽

Thanks for making this video! I've seen a lot of bad reviews and have been on the fence. I want to get the Optic 25 but it's not an option on their site right now. I contacted customer support and they said the production is currently halted and they don't have a timeline of when it will resume but it won't be anytime soon. What a bummer!! I heard the 65 shakes a lot in the wind.
@Surf_Vidz
@Surf_Vidz 2 года назад
I’ve heard of similar issues with the 65 as well. Because it’s so lens heavy it has a tendency to shake when fastened to a Soloshot tripod. On windy days I take my beach back and fasten to the hook that’s up under the legs of the tripod so that it weighs it down.
@surfmiki
@surfmiki 2 года назад
I use VIDEOPAD for editing, since it has stabilizer function, that can take off most of the wind-shake.

My camera settings are in the description, check them out above. I know you can have two or more tags registered, I'm pretty sure you can't have them both running at the same time though. Thanks for checking in!

I use two tags with my buddy. I use the push botton function for taking control/tracking. It works fine, most of the time.

Great tute, thanks for spending the time to do that. I wait 8 minutes after turning the base on before I start calibrating. Do you not wait that long?
@Surf_Vidz
@Surf_Vidz 2 года назад
I never have wait that long. Once my camera is on and my base recognizes my tag, my camera is usually good to go. My main hang up with the camera was always my tag not being recognized.

My 25 worked way better so far then my 65. My cable charges and sometimes don’t charge when plugged in to the battery bank because the wires move while tracking, even in settings when it says battery charging dose not mean it is! Only way to know is wait to see if its not dropping. Its hit and miss and finding best location is key. Zoom is hit and miss to. I miss the 25 accuracy wish they made that version 4k to!!

Where I surf i want to set my camper up on a cliff. I can calibrate up top but then my camera won’t have line of sight on me while I scramble down the cliff to paddle out. Have you tried this yet? Will my camera find me once line of sight is reestablished?
@Surf_Vidz
@Surf_Vidz 2 года назад
I have never tried it before but in theory it should work. I have been in a situation where I’ve been obscured while the camera is doing the initial calibration and it’s found me once I emerged. As long as you have a clear line of sight with your tag and your camera you should be ok. Maybe test it first before you surf if you can. Let me know how it goes.

@@DiscosVideos Sounds like it’s an SD card issue. You may want to reformat it or check the specs. I’ve heard the Soloshot doesn’t like certain cards.

Awesome video! I'm a prospective buyer and looking to see how viable this is. Can I ask if this is the 65 or 25? Any other tips I should know? Surfing in Santa Cruz, so might be far away with point breaks.

Hi I bought a used one on ebay. tried it today. the camera tracked, but didn't record. Am I supposed to hit the record button? Every video I've watched on this, no one is hitting record. They have it calibrate, walk back and forth to make sure it's correct, then paddle out. Also, being that it's used, should i do a factory re-set? Or that's not that important. Thanks
@Surf_Vidz
@Surf_Vidz Год назад
The camera should start recording once you’ve calibrated and removed the tag from the base. There’s a counter that starts as it records. If it didn’t record it could be a problem your SD card. A way to tell if that’s happening is the green light flashes more rapidly than it usually does.

Do you do anything to prevent it from being stolen on the beach unattended or just leave it?
@Surf_Vidz
@Surf_Vidz 2 года назад
I’ve always left it. There’s parts of the beach where I live where I feel safe doing so. Although I know Soloshot makes a K-Lock for the camera, however, it looks like it’s currently out of stock.

I’m surprised at the lack of interest in mine. There are locks you can buy to attach to the base, but I understand the reservation to buy one for that reason.
