Just made 6 quarts of salsa.. 🌶 I always skin my tomatoes. I love the idea of straining the tomatoes. I going to do that next time. No cilantro?? Thanks Jara!
🌶 Thanks Jara for the recipe! My tomato plants didn’t produce this year. Here in central Arkansas it was just too hot and I haven’t had a garden for over 25 years so I was a little rusty! I’m preparing now for next year hoping I can do a better job. I did have a couple of farmers markets and got some produce, but only what we could eat before it went bad. My freezers were full so no room for anything else this year. I will add this to my growing recipe book.
That salsa looks so good! I'm a wimp, so have to leave out the hot stuff LOL I didn't grow anything this year but hope to grow some Roma and other paste tomatoes next year in some containers. Also, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers and jalapenos ... a "salsa garden"! 🌶
That's how we got started... let's just start with a little salsa garden... lol and it just grew and grew! Even picking out "just a few" tomatoes to grow is a challenge lol. There is so much cool stuff out there to plant!
Can green tomatoes be frozen??Did a search and nothing difinitive..Hey J and R.. Not big on salsa but love fried green tomatoes..I know freezing makes the slices a bit funky but think a good drying and egg wash n panko/bread crumbs should work ..Will try in the AIR FRYER for kicks n giggles..WOW you beat that chopper like it owes you money!!!GREAT as always.. 7 cord wood to stack n rack..WINTA SUKZ
I don't see why not! My concern would be that they could get too mushy to fry, but I know folks can slices to fry later and I can't see that making them any less mushy than the freezer? It's definitely worth a try! And yes the I love that Chopper it works great but it has to know you mean business! 😂 Plus I know my resident video editor 😉 likes to poke fun at me when I have a fail (in case you missed the zucchini Relish video 😂) so I like to make sure I don't give him the opportunity!
🌶 In West Texas (hot, sunny, low humidity), we try to grow tomatoes every year without much success. The tomatoes we do get do not start to grow until September when the weather begins to cool. Does anyone have suggestions/recommendations? I love a garden tomato! 🌶
I probably won't give a very scientific answer here lol but the best way I understand it us that the pressure canning process forces a lot of the air out of the jar to make an environment where bacteria can't grow ... so if there is too much air it may not force enough air out to ensure that. That being said, people do all kinds of things that aren't "supposed" to be done and it usually ends up fine! But I always just throw the partial jar in the fridge and use it for a tester! 😊
Thank you for responding. I am just learning to can. Water bath for now, hoping to purchase pressure cooker soon. I love learning from all you amazing people on internet. Thank you again. 😊
This question is off topic, but I don’t know how else to contact you! You recommended a powdered food company to me! Firehouse! I’m wondering if you have other tricks up your sleeve! I’d love to know other places like this that you have found! Thanks Jara!
Hi Kay! You can always email me if you want as well, info@wickedprepared.com or wickedprepared@gmail.com! Are you looking for other companies with powdered seasonings or ingredients specifially? I get butter, sour cream, honey and tomato powders at wickedprepared.thrivelife.com and I've found some neat powdered flavorings as well at www.nohfoods.com/ and I've found some neat stuff on Amazon as well! There may be more, I'll have to think on it and add them if I come up with anything! 😊
