edit I realized after I posted the video that input 1 was set to line instead of instrument. I usually use a DI box into input 1 with xlr but decided not to use it for this video to keep it simple and go straight to input 1, but didn’t make the change to instrument input type. No biggie. Process still the same 🤘
This is the process I use for capturing my amps with neural amp modeler. Nothing fancy. I hope it's helpful for people starting to make their own captures. Please subscribe if this was useful!

I'm new at this and don't yet have a D.I. or a loader box but at least now I know how they are used in the signal chain and I thank you for that. This is the best video that I have come across that explain in detail the signal chain for use with NAM.

Two small critique, your mic was a little low in comparison to say the end music that doubled in volume. Second, I didn't see a buymeacoffee or anything, I think you totally deserve something for all your work. Otherwise this was an excellent tutorial, and thank you, I have some gear I want to do soon. One question in your opinion, is the 1000 epochs worth it? I know your stuff sounds a few, notches above most other captures, so was questioning if that had to do with it? Anyways, thanks again amazing captures, and can't wait to see more content.

I really appreciate your feedback! 😃 For high gain, I think above 800 epochs is probably not needed. I went with 1000 epochs cause it’s more 😎 It didn’t feel right to ask for coffee until I got some good feedback for what I’m doing. I may add a coffee link very soon 🙏
@lorenmorgan1931
@lorenmorgan1931 Год назад
@@Obi-Juan_Guitar Awesome stuff. Yeah that coffee link would be well deserved. You have the most detailed amp rigs I have ever seen, not just in terms of sound quality, but in your capture methods. Its basically every knob turn you could ever wish for. I have an ADA rack and some Blackstar tube preamp (and other) pedals that I want profile as well, and I think I will be using your method of knob turning to do it. :)
@Obi-Juan_Guitar
@Obi-Juan_Guitar Год назад
@@lorenmorgan1931I have owned many tube amps.I always like to know what 555 sounds like on any amp. I like to push cleaner channels to the max and see what they can do. Many amps sound good with knobs at 10. After that I try to find a comfortable place for the presence and look for a high mids tone and a scooped tone. Then I try to find a one of setting that sounds balanced. Some amps have commons settings that everyone tries. I do some research and provide those too. For example 666 on 5150s. Thats how I go about knob turning. But like I said, I have used many real amps and enjoy the process of finding sounds 🤘
@lorenmorgan1931
@lorenmorgan1931 Год назад
@@Obi-Juan_Guitar 555 is pretty much raw preamp with no tone. When playing live I always slotted an EQ rack into the FX loop and sculpted the tone that way with everything on 5. On occasion I would roll back the bass though if the venue was smaller and was giving me too much bass response. But yea, I get you on the sweet spot. When I do my Blackstar pedals, like the HT-Dual I will start out 555 and go knob turning. The bigger issue with the Blackstar is that damn ISF knob that makes the gainstage act like British (Marshall) one way and a American (Mesa/Fender) gain circuit the other way. What is cool is the blending of the characteristics of the two types of circuits. I used the dual for a ton of gigs straight into a poweramp, and the emulated load out straight into the board for shows they didnt want to mic, and it did an incredible job.
@Obi-Juan_Guitar
@Obi-Juan_Guitar Год назад
@@lorenmorgan1931right on. Some amps sound like crap at 555 though. Mesa Mark series with bass higher than 1 or 2 with gain is a flub fest. 😂

Hey Obi, thanks for this video. I had a question and willing to pay for this advice. I am currently trying to make a model of my Neve 1073. We are using a DI box, and out of the DI into the 1073. All things being equal, we keep getting an error message saying “Your gear doesnt sound like itself when played twice!” Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance!
@Obi-Juan_Guitar
@Obi-Juan_Guitar 4 месяца назад
It could be that the Neve 1073 is doing some sort of compression or dynamics that the trainer can't replicate. Try using the ignore quality checks and see what type of results you get. I'm curious. Also, there is a NAM Facebook official group with a very knowledgeable community that can help troubleshoot issues like this. The creator of NAM is there as well and chimes in all the time on questions like this. 🤘

Can I do interface output directly to the amp and then record with a mic? Cuz I don’t have any other gear
@Obi-Juan_Guitar
@Obi-Juan_Guitar 9 месяцев назад
You would need to convert your line level output from interface to instrument level so it hits the amp with the levels the amp expects to see. I believe you can use a guitar pedal with ab buffer as a “reamp box”. You don’t need a capture box if you’re going to mic your amp. You would just create a Full Rig capture. I just released a video showing the process with a mic to create a Full Rig: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--ufhZVJr700.htmlsi=LWPyR6GVs7RLj4yA

My buffer size is 64. Try using version 1 of the trainer file and see if it works. You can also disable the quality checks in NAM trainer and check ESR. What ESR are you getting?

@@warp95 awesome yes. Auto punch is the way. Put the trainer file and the captured file on the same timeline and zoom in at the end. Trim capture file to match trainer file. Make sure studio one is not time stretching the trainer file on import.

Hello. Is it possible to capture a vst chain not a real amp? For example a BOSS HM2 VST + some AMP SIM?
@Obi-Juan_Guitar
@Obi-Juan_Guitar 4 месяца назад
Yes! Feel free to experiment. There may be some issues with sharing those on ToneHunt for legal reasons, but shouldn't be an issue for personal use. Not an expert on that end. Give it a try though 🤘

@@Obi-Juan_Guitar Thank you for response. I had a problem to begin training - there was something wrong with output file. What I was doing wrong was NOT TURNING OFF NOISE GATE on my vst chain 🙂. You made a good point about legal reasons cause I thought about uploading profiles to Tonehunt. Not to share them but rather store them for my self in proper place. But I guess I have to reconsider... Anyway - THANK YOU for Your reply and great NAM tutorials.

how to do this with an audo interface only?
@Obi-Juan_Guitar
@Obi-Juan_Guitar 2 месяца назад
You can make a full rig with just an audio interface and a mic. No need for a load box. You can use a buffer pedal as reamp box or go directly from interface to amp but you may have to experiment with send levels. I think you can use that DI box in reverse to make it work like reamp box. I just did a quick search and saw that it “ transforms high impedance signal to allow impedance signal and vice versa” give it a try
