People need to know what goes into care for a bulldog. It's more than an average breed but this breed is absolutely not average! It's worth it for the companionship and entertainment these dogs bring us.
Cute video...Eloise is a doll. One suggestion...feed her a diet that does not have wheat. Her food does. The staining she gets is from yeast. The wheat she is eating turns into sugar which makes yeast. It may be why she is licking her feet the yeast is itchy.
I just got my bulldog pup on Friday & i absolutely love her. I didn't realize how much you have to care for them before I got her, but I don't think it would've change anything. I've always wanted a French & a English Bulldog. your video was very helpful & I will take notes. Thanks.
Thank you for making this video! I'm a vet tech, and we see so many bulldogs come into my clinic where owners have not done proper research on what it takes to manage the breed. Great job! Your doggie is super cute!! =)
A few other common products to help with care are "Desitin", which is a baby diaper rash paste, and "Angel Eyes" which is a food additive. I would have to daily apply Desitin paste in the creases just below the eyes to prevent the moisture from the tears to cause a rash. "Angel Eyes" helps to break down the rust coloration caused by tears and saliva. I've always been a proponent of the Abady raw food diet. It's adult formula is low in protein which helps keep the dogs lean to prevent stress on joints. Diet is the most important thing for these animals, and if you skimp on what you feed them you'll pay threefold in vet bills and treatments.
Hello all. I am Mia, Eloise's sister (my parents are the owners of her). This video was recorded and uploaded just months after we got her. To address some comments: Yes, no one should hold their bulldog as we did during her bath, it is harmful to their joints- an area of common problems for the breed. No- bulldogs, pit bulls, rotties, no breed is aggressive by nature. We made this video when we were 16 years old and basically got our information off of websites. This myth about the breeds is very unfortunate because it gives them a bad reputation based on fiction. Eloise to this day loves taking baths- when she wants to. She is very stubborn and as you can see in the video, made getting her into the bath a game. She does this now with getting her wrinkle mupirocin and ending walks too soon for her. She loved skateboarding since week one when she came across the old skateboard we had in the garage. She played with it with no coaxing or anything. She has gone through allergy testing and is allergic to ingredients in basically every dog food so she now eats an extremely high-end and closely monitored diet and drinks only filtered water. For those of you commenting on the video expressing your dreams of owning a bulldog, I caution you. The resources and time and vet bills and allergy medication that goes into the basic upkeep of a bulldog is worth it, but very necessary and should be planned for accordingly. Though my parents do not regret buying Eloise, they do wish they had done their research beforehand a little more thoroughly. Thankfully, they had the time and the money to accommodate all the vet visits, testing, and medicine. I ENCOURAGE you to do your research on any dog you adopt or buy but more so for you to go to your local shelter. Eloise's face is dried with a cloth multiple times a day. She gets salve in her wrinkles a few times a day. Her bottom is wiped every time she comes in from outside. Her ears are wiped twice a day. Her tail pocket (yes, this is a thing) needs to have old hair wiped out once a week. She gets professional baths once a month. This is just simple upkeep and sometimes all that is still not enough. We are constantly treating yeast infections and watery eyes. Our vet says she is one of the best cared for bulldogs she has seen- and still, we have $2,000 vet bills every once in a while. Thank you, everyone, for commenting on my friend's video for our high school project, but please note the above before commenting. Again, we were 16 and had no idea what we were talking about- or in for. I will try to watch the comments more closely from this point on- answering any questions you may have.
Some of these comments is so unnecessary, some people just cannot enjoy a simple video. That bulldog is clearly loved and so spoiled! Wish I can say that for some dogs.
This was a great video, I loved it! Especially the bathing time! =D Although I have to point out that *no* dog i aggressive by nature, aggressive behaviour isn't given by birth, it's developed!
+Ally A. Not true. Learn about breeding strategies first. Some breeds, including bulldog, are bred to be aggressive. In the past 300-400 years, it is bred for domestic use. A 16th century bulldog, for example, was impossible to be kept inside the house. The original pure bred bulldog, not rare, was one of the most violent breeds out there.
My family has a Olde English Bulldogge, yes, thats how its spelled, he is so precious, loves all humans who will cater to him, we all love him to pieces. Olde English is a bit taller than the English Bulldog, and has a little less health issues, either one, they are precious.
Try a couple of drops of white vinegar in their water .It changes the PH .Just a COUPLE .Not too much.NEVER pick a dog of this weight up by its elbows .These 2 girls have not much clue do they?
We just rescued a bulldog. Lots to learn. We have a black lab. Easy maintenance. Learning about care - wrinkles etc.- on utube videos. Give yours a hug and scratch behind the ears
You say Bulldogs are aggressive? I've heard that unlike Pit Bull breeds, the English Bulldog has had all of the aggressiveness bred out of him, and he is now one of the gentlest. My own limited experience with Bulldogs has confirmed this impression. As far as I know, this breed does not have a bite record against either humans or animals.
You are 100% correct, they are genuinely far too lazy to instigate any confrontation with humans or animals. Bulldogs are by far one of the best breeds with children and being brachiocephalic, the only thing you would ever have to worry about are the health risks. Bulldogs are perfect family dogs, dont get me started on Pits lol
I wouldnt use the word aggressive but the wonderdog would bark and put up a fuzz when he didnt like someone or something then there was the time he jumped thru the screen door to chase the landscapers
Mugenloo seems to be an expert on retards, but he is definitely not an expert on bulldogs. And anyone else claiming bulldogs are not aggressive doesn't know much about them either.
Nice video but 2 things. 1: I did some research on that food and heard it was bad for dogs. 2: That toothpaste is great, but I just like baking soda and water. Use it 2 times a day!
Feed her real food. Bulldogges don't do well on the processed junk that is dry kibble... even the "premium" brands are poor. I have a Dorset Bulldogge and I feed 100% raw. You might find the food is the cause of her tear staining and flatulence. Try raw... It's the best thing you can do for your dog... especially a breed so prone to health issues like the English bulldog.
Lauren Hayden my English bulldog will be here in March and I was told by breeder skinless chick thighs boil them with chop carrots is very good for them I am a BJ’s member so I’ll buy a whole case for 22 bucks ... I hope that’s helpful
Every day, every other day.but my dog doesn't have a ph balance, i do it just to keep his wrinkles clean. Ears for my dog has to be done everyday though. If i dont clean his ears, they get wax/gunk build up and it bothers him. After a few days he starts shaking his head all the time, and then eventually will start scratching his ears. So i make sure i clean them everyday, and if i see more build up than usual for a few days in a row, i use medicated drops.
giving them a treat after the daily skin care will give you a better chance of them holding still while your cleaning them. Many will require daily eye drops. English Bulldogs are high maintenance the vet bills get really expensive. mine had 3 surgeries. 1st was reduction of rolls of skin around the eyes. 2nd removed one eye due to glaucoma, 3rd was to remove her uterus due to cancer.
bulldogs are not aggressive. had dogs for 17 years. they are very quiet and calm. best dog you can buy. sleep all day and eat . little exercise and that's it. great with kids also
The reason for wiping down the wrinkles isn't just the discoloration- they can develop hot spots and blisters, they accumulate bacteria in the wrinkles and that can become infected and painful to the bulldogs. There is a lot more that needs to be done for the bulldog, these are just a few of the things that need to be done. Definitely go on other sites, they have tons more literature on them.
It's mentioned that Bulldogs are aggressive by nature, this is not true. I am an expert on Bulldogs in the UK. Also grabbing a Bulldog by the lose folds of skin is not good as this can damage the nerve endings on the Bulldogs neck and cause the Bulldog to be paralysed.
Guess what, Arianna? In about a week or two, we're getting an female 11 week old English Bulldog puppy. Her name is going to be Rebecca. We can't wait, we're so excited!!
I adopted the yogurt idea from you. Makes me happy to see the Chief, my bulldog, is not having any problems going to the bathroom anymore. Great idea! :)
Make sure you brush daily I did brush my dogs 🐶 teeth but not often enough and his veterinarian in Alton Illinois got crazy and pulled a couple of them and didn’t watch him afterwards and that’s how I lost him
How often do you brush her teeth, clean her face, and give her a bath. I have an English Bulldog named Harley, and u don't know if I'm giving him the proper care, I give him a bath, clean his ears and face, and brush his teeth twice a week. This is a wonderful video, but It is bad to pick up a bulldog by under their arms. The way their shoulders are, picking them up like that can cause a dislocation. It is better to put one arm in between their front legs and the other through their back legs and cradle them. Best wishes from Harley and I.
Just got our first bulldog a year ago after our cockapoo passed. I think it was a change but not much. They need different things but as long as you're commited they can be amazing dogs. Ours is so friendly and is just a sweetheart. Definitely a one of a kind breed
I got my bulldog in college and it was the perfect time to get him. I only had 4 hours of class a day and I had plenty of time to spend with him especially during his puppy years.
***** I lucked out, my guy was pretty drama free. Adopting is a great thing and should always be encouraged but i wouldn't recommend adopting a bulldog. As you know BD's can have alot of health issues. Only a reputable breeder can provide you with the healthiest bulldog possible saving you alot of money in the long run. Bulldogs from a breeder are expensive. However, you'll be saving alot of money and heartache in the future
Me and my fiance are both college students. If you have someone close you should definitely get one, obviously don't unless you think you can take care though. That said I wouldn't get any other breed
excellent video! just one question, not sure if you mentioned it and I may have missed it. how often do you do this. is this a daily thing or weekly? How often do you bathe her? your video is very informative and helped me since Im about to surprise my kids with a bulldog puppy. Thanks
Congratulations for the video! I have an English bulldog since 1,5 year now, and still I l keep learning! Thank you for your valuable advices! Eloise is absolutely marvelous!
that was great - I started to look after a 4 month old puppy today and now I am better equipt to work with him to get the best out of him. Thanks for posting.
do you know how you take care of the bulldog ? 1. you ignore the vet 2. you feed him treats from the table 3. walk him IN THE SHADE for hours and most important let him swim in the canal the WONDERDOG lived 13+ years because I treated him like the VIKING WARRIOR he was born to be
You can dip her paws for 5 minutes in an organic apple cider vinegar to kill the yeast build up in her paws. Another reason for them having itchy paws and discoloration. This helps to squelch breeding of yeast.
