My parents just dont get it i have been researching for 3 or 4 years now and they think they are so hard and big and they need these big enclosures and then when i try and tell them there not they wont listen to me congrats to all of you tho who have cresties great video
Hey I don’t know if you’ve already tried this or have a crestie now but if you haven’t which you probably have maybe try showing articles about them pictures of them or like videos on them that could debunk the misinfo they have about them. That’s how my dad was convinced.
These videos are insanely helpful!! I’ve always used your advice and care standards when it comes it comes to working at petsmart despite being surrounded by a ton of outdated standards when it comes to care and enclosures.. Used to see you a lot back in Ottawa at the 1750 location!
Another tip when it comes to lighting: regardless if you use UVB or not, a light cycle is really important for them to know when they should be sleeping, or when they should be awake. I recommend putting your lighting on a timer (smart timers are the best because you can have it turn on and off at sunset/sunrise). If it’s on a timer it will really help tell the gecko when it’s day and night, which is important biologically for a multitude of reasons!
Cresties are my favorite reptile, they were my first and forever my favorite! I have 3 at this moment, a male name Chonkers, a female name Sushi and a juvenile that I believe is a female names Timbit! Love any video involving crested geckos! Thanks Emma❤️
I personally bought a 6g extreme Harley a few days ago from a reptile expo, the breeder had told me all the wrong stuff so now I’m on a hunt to get it done right
Definately going to subscribe! Super helpful video and channel. I currently have three crested geckos. An adult confirmed female called Lewie (Harlequin). A 9 month confirmed male called Dug (Flame) and a hatching we named Cherri (Bicolour). I've kept cresties for nearly 4 years now and I personally have learned as I've gone along. I did research before getting Lewie but I've learnt more and more as time went on. Even videos like this give me small ideas of how to change up tanks and stuff. Very helpful!
i have a 40gal tall, not sure the measurements yet but it looks like its two of your small ones together, would it be ok for one gecko or should i divide it for two? I dont wanna stress him out too much bc hes a baby
Awesome video. Very helpful. I learned a lot from you. I do have a question though. If your gecko food has D3 in the ingredients do you still have to put the calcium with D3 on there insects or do you just use calcium with out D3?
Do you have a video about setting up a planted terrarium? Or know of a really good one for beginners? My partner has 3 geckos and I'm a plant nerd and want to make a lush mini jungle
Great video! Very informative! I've been keeping green anoles for a few years now and I'm considering getting a crested gecko next. Similar habitat, humidity and tank setup as anoles, just with lower heat requirements.
hey Your videos are super and very interesting Now I have a question I see a lot of people putting Leopard geckos in bio active terrariums you did that too But the substrate you use is hard to find in Belgium In Belgium you do have jungle bedding from lucky repille and reptisoil from zoomed and sub stratum from exo terra, these are also good to use Or do you have any other suggestions? I also have crested geckos and gargoyle geckos I am a big fan grtz from belguim Steve
Hate to say it, but maybe you’re not giving yourself enough credit, years of experience, especially being hands on is enough to make someone a professional, maybe a vet can diagnose, but either way 90% of vets couldn’t even treat one.
Oh my goodness. I love your videos so much. lol I got my crestie, Pumpkin, a little over a month ago and i'm struggling to get her to eat from her food dish. I have to basically feed her myself. I got her Repashi and she loves it, but she will only lick it from the skewer when I put it in front of her face and she doesn't go to her dish...at all. I have branches and everything leading her towards her dish and that makes no difference. But it sucks because I don't want to "Spoil" her and make it even more difficult for her in the future. I have tried to make it noticeable to see if she would eat at night, but I can't really tell. I just know for a fact that throughout the day, she doesn't touch her food dish.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video :) They’re mostly nocturnal so you won’t really see them eat during the day at all. They typically come out to eat during the night!
Can u talk about caring for dart frogs? About humidity, temps , and how wet they need to be if any....great video thank u for sharing my crested gecko FLASH is about ur size
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I’ve only owned dart frogs for a few months so I don’t feel experienced enough to give out care advice for them, but in the future when I have some more experience i definitely will!
What size do you think is good to move them into their bioactive? Mine is currently about 14 grams and is progressing amazingly but I really really want to get him into the bioactive which has been planted for about 4 months now. Thanks.
Love this video! I was wondering how your able to keep them (and the babies) without additional heat? I live in northern Indiana and it’s gets so cold at night all my reptiles need supplemental heat but it seems like no one else I watch does so maybe I’m doing something wrong lol 🤣
I’m getting a crestie soon, and I’ve been doing so much research about them, I even have a book 😂 I’ve currently got a bearded dragon, a leopard gecko, a tortoise and 2 dogs, soon to be a crested gecko too..
thanks so much for this! i just got a monarch crested gecko and this really helped me out! i was wondering if you ever have used the blended gecko formula because that was what i was given where i bought my gecko but all the videos i have watched they are feeding insects to their geckos. what would you recommend for a younger gecko?? i’m scared if i try to give her insects she won’t know what to do
I recently moved and it’s a much dryer climate than I’m use to and i find that both my geckos enclosures have a hard time keeping humidity. If anyone knows of any useful tips that would be great
I still don't currently keep reptiles but I have tarantulas and aquatic pets. I hope I can keep one in the future. I would name it cheeseball ( inside joke from a goherping video comment ) and I wish you luck on your journey of getting a crested gecko
Hey i have a question, When you first get your crested gecko would you recommend not interacting with it that much on the first day? Like allowing it to get used to his or her environment first or can you interact with it? i hope that made sense I would love to know because i’m planning on getting a crested gecko but I just wanted to know what I should do when I first get it
I just got my frist ever crested gecko on christmas, i was so upset when i learned that my sister caused his tail to fall off, the poor lil guy was so scared! but i put down some paper towls and left him alone for awhile, and he seems to be doing good for now, but how long would it take for his tail nub to heal?
I got a female adult crested gecko today and she’s the cutest thing I have asides from my dog, she’s very jumpy but I expected that so I handled her on the floor, the only thing I didn’t expect was that her skin was very velvety and soft
Personally I feel like if you can’t handle having live insects in your house you should own reptiles. I hate touching them but my reptiles appreciate them😁
They actually live on an island where it’s hot so they can’t get too cold…I’d you live up north or in a climate where it gets below 60,I recommend getting a heat source for your crested gecko.
I’ve heard too large of a tank can cause them to be unable to find their food and eat less, have you or anyone experienced this? I don’t typically like to do the minimum 😅 is this only for juveniles?
What about a heat mat?? ? I have heat mats for all 3 of my cresties as option incase they decide they want to soak up, but I've never seen them use it, so I guess it's not needed??? Id appreciate a reply so ik if I need to remove them or not! Dw they are on the outside of the enclosure walls. Not inside.
So I’m in the seventh grade and I got two leopard geckos dash and mango and I’ve been saving up the money for a enclosure and a crested gecko do you think I should get them, Ive had them for over a year and Ive done a lot of research on the crested gecko family do you think I should get one
No, don’t put anything between the heat mat. It’s meant to go directly on the glass. But it’s not really useful for crested geckos, heat pads won’t warm up the air at all which is what a crested gecko would need.
@@EmmaLynneSampson what about putting the heat mat on the top because my ceramic heat lamp keeps getting way to hot and i use a thermostat then once i turn it off it gets really cold in my room idk what to do at this point please help
@@joselyn.bentley5377 I would recommend getting a thermostat to hook up to your ceramic heat bulb. That way you can regulate how hot it gets and also use the probe to read the temp that the bulb is emitting
Do you recommend a 10gal horizontal tank for a hatchling? A lot of people say smaller because of how tiny they are, but I want to try to make it work. I wouldn’t mind adding a divider either if needed! Just wondering if it’s safer to keep it shorter rather than taller for the first few months!
@@EmmaLynneSampson My tank is 18 inches tall and 27 inches long. I can’t change it or convert it. I got the tank for free on the side of the road. I have set it up as a vivarium. To my research it isn’t the best, but it would work. What do you think?
I’m considering getting a cresty, and I live in a pretty hot place along with keeping my room at anywhere from 71-74°F. Would I still need a still heat source?
One of my fav reptile And why do they think they can fly or stick the landing not realizing their desired spot is really far far away. Mine does it all the time. Do you think a 18 x 18 x 40 a good upgrade for a crested gecko? Mine is currently in 18 x 18 x 24.
She’s not lonely, you’re anthropomorphizing her. Crested geckos are solitary animals and don’t benefit from cohabitation. In fact, it’s often stressful for them and they will likely compete for resources. They may even fight.
I mist once a day and that’s usually enough to do it. I live in a humid area, and use all live plants though. Live plants help retain humidity, you can also mist twice a day if needed!
@@EmmaLynneSampson Oh wow. I mist multiple times a day as the humidity consistently drops under 50. I don't want to mess anything up. Live plants would help fix this or do I need to also look at a different terrarium? I got one from Petsmart when we bought him.
No, any lights at night disrupt their day/night cycle. If it gets below 65F at night, use a ceramic heat emitter or deep heat projector connected to a thermostat.
@@EmmaLynneSampson also is there a way to keep in contact with you? Do you have a Facebook page I can message or something to have regular contact with you? I’m just starting my terrarium setups got my first crested gecko ordered and would like to keep in contact with someone who knows what they’re on about 😊
