I bought this plant from Garden Goods Direct 2 years ago, before they became so unicorn. I find that the more you cut it the better, it will thicken up. My plant has actually produced little plants at the nodes, I've gotten 5 plants so far.

I had a couple peru cuttings in water for months and months and they didn’t do anything but as soon as I put them in with a bunch of pothos cuttings they took off and rooted so quickly!! Now I make sure I have a couple pothos cuttings in all my water props

Everytime I get a new plant I always immediately come here and see if you have a plant of the week about it! I always know I’m in good hands when you do :)

Highly recommend a true sphagnum moss pole for the standelyana. I have a self-watering version and this plant climbs it 100% on its own (I don’t need to tie it on) with roots for daaaays at ambient humidity. I was told when I bought it from a local spot that it giving it something it can actually climb is the way to prevent runners and so far it has worked. Not to mention when it gets to the top and and I want to prop it, it’s already air layered. My single vine was cut back once and it now has 3 it sprouted on its own. One of the vines came out super “showy” though. Has given me two all white leaves so far.

Monstera Standleyana was the first cutting I have bought and tried to propagate ever... About a year later and countless cuttings coming and going I am so proud that it has finally decided to live! In January (winter season)! Out of nowhere!

Hi Nick. I really enjoy your comments. It’s the way you speak about plants, their native environments, special adaptations and behaviors.

I've been propping these in leca with a 100% success rate. Beside from that, they tend to rot in water propagation for me

Perlite propagation works great for these! I was able to root a one node one leaf cutting in perlite inside of my terrarium and the it took about a month. The trick is good humidity!

Hey lovely 🤗 Love ypur little oddball, its very cute and definitely has an air of character. I've had my Standleyana for almost 4yrs now, and tbh never had to deal with runners...the trick is a decent humidity level and a must is to have it attached to someone ASAP 😅 I'd cut the runners off and chop up the nodes lit them callous and pop then all about an inch deep in a pot of moist dense soil. Just follow the same care for cuttings as below and i bet some will grow for you, better that just composting them. Ive propped this way with the few odd node that had either a damaged leaf I've just removed or a node with no leaf. When and if you decide to chop, just attach the new growth gently to the pole where the aerial roots are, and it should take hold. As for propping its simple take a cutting 1 leaf with a node let it callous and pop it in a dense soil mix in a little plastic cup with some holes in the bottom for drainage then just keep the soil slightly moist until that new growth pops out and you see those lovely white roots in the cup...I've lost maybe a handful out of over 40 props 🌱💚🪴

Thanks for the video! I've had great (near 100%) success propagating in a prop box with sphagnum moss. I've done it with single node/leaf cuttings as well as just nodes (or "wet sticks"). Hope you can prop successfully to get that fuller plant you want!

Me too, done it with both techniques. It works, just have to be really patient, it does grow slowly in my experience.

I have 2 here in Australia. Bought the first about 4 years ago. Grow rapidly in bright light with sphagnum pole, loves to get roots into pole. I have more white on the one getting more light. Growing in an aroid mix that's pretty chunky. Have propagated in both water & leca successfully but 2 node cuttings only.

I Chose M. S. Albos To Be My Happy New Year To ME Plants!!! I Found 2 That Were Growing In 4 Inch Pots For About $30 Each... THIS Was Just Right For ME Because I Find IT Very Hard To Spend 50, $60 On ONE Plant...BUT I DON'T Have A Problem With Spending The Same Amount To Get 2...PLUS I Tend To Buy Most Of My Plants In Twos. These 2 Stan Jrs. Have Been Putting Out New Leaves Since DAY ONE!!! The Leaves Of My Stans Are Also Just Streaked Or Spreckled With White So Far...I've Been Thinking That IF I Want To Get Them More Alboed-Out That I Would Need To Move Them To A Sunnier Spot. Hard To Do That When: Having Them Close To ME In My Space...DEFINITELY Puts A Smile On My Face!!! 🤩

Try propagating it in perlite with lots of humidity it worked for me. ☺️

I propagated a 1 1/2" node cutting in a clear beverage cup with a lid and sphagnum moss until it grew healthy roots and 3 leaves. Now it's in a 5" pot with aerated soil, similar to your potting medium under grow lights.

i have to add with some other comments i see here that since i got my cutting, i immediately put it in leca and it is so low maintenance and grows very well. i’m going to up-pot mine soon even.

You should do a video on what house plants can go outside from zone 6 to zone 10 and if any would need to come inside for winter or summer.

I'm really surprised to hear about the propagation struggles! I've rooted loads of standleyana cuttings in water and had maybe one or two that didnt make it. I also have 2 wet sticks in a box with some sphagnum moss currently and they've both grown leaves and are rooting nicely. I don't know if I'm just lucky or have some sort of indestructible specimen? I grew mine from a 1 leaf cutting and chopped up the vine last spring to fill out the pot. I'm growing it without a moss pole and I actually really like the way it trails, although the leaves stay smaller but I don't mind that.

Yess, in my experience it's a nightmare to propagate the Standleyana. I've done it successfully in moss but it took me several months. It is beautiful though and it's absolutely worth it

My Peru cuttings finally started growing roots after 6 (SIX!) months. This took ages. What caused root growth I think was putting the cuttings together with other well rooted plants in water. Root growth hormone from other plants might have helped.

wait this is rare?? 😭 i found it at my local nursery for about 13$ and it was at least a couple of vines in a 4” pot... I’d considered taking it home with me but one of the vines were damaged and I’d already found other plants i wanted to buy lol after finding out about how cool it is i kinda regret not taking it too and im sure it’ll be gone by now 🙃 thanks for the vid nick, I’ll save it for the day i get my hands on this sucker for good

I have been very lucky with mine. It is roughly the same size as yours but I've never gotten a runner. I have lots of half Moon variegation. Propagating works only 30% of the time for me if I'm lucky. I find it very hard to propagate. One of the things I learned was that if it is hit by direct sunlight the leaves will curl which made me think that it was thirsty and I almost overwatered and killed it.

I have the same experience with propagating this plant. 0% success rate 😅. I’ve enjoyed reading these comments with propagation tips. I might to try air layering or propping 2 node cuttings to see if that makes a difference.
@ZombixMix
@ZombixMix 2 года назад
I’ve never had success with these cuttings either! I’ve also noticed mine shoots a runner immediately after the pole ends, I’m assuming it only wants to grow upwards and would only send runners if you were to try it as a hanging pot

The most successful prop for me was air layering. Once there are roots i cut and continue rooting in water then soil. Older nodes tend to not root up for me. Mostly top cuts only

If you put this plant on the pole immediately when its small it will attacht to the pole and grow bigger leaves without producing a runners. Runners come when the plant dont feel supported.A plant with a lot of white in the leaves doesnt thrive in normal home conditions, the browning occurs very often so higher humidity will be better. I have a lot of succes in propagating in water,the nodes are doing well in a prop boxes with spaghnum or perlite.

Do you feel your oats when you say Araeceae? Aroid? You seem to love putting an emphasis on those words.

I think he's just enunciating the words so that we can hear them correctly over the video. Especially something like "Araeceae" can sound like mush if you don't.
