Hey guys I just wanted to make an exact care video for the doves because I don't see that many videos out there. PLEASE hit that subscribe button and leave a like for me! You're the best!
I have two bonded pairs of ring necks , even though they are bonded they follow me from room to room when I let them out of their cages - I think they are fantastic companion pets!
I've had Zebra finches for YEARS... my son wanted doves. We got two females, so there should be built in population control. So far they are proving to be easy to care for, and don't make as big of a seed mess as the finches did. Budgies are WAY messier.
There was a video by a creator named emzotic or something. She did a video on doves but I did not agree with anything she said. First off she had them in a tall cage and said doves don’t like toys (they do. They are super curious birds) she never fed them anything but seeds and my doves love veggies (not so lucky with fruit though) they are noisy birds and woo woo all night long and if you have two males like me they will fight 😐 then preen each other, fight some more, hump and fight again 😂 but I love them. Such sweet little soles 🥰
Lice, just found lice on my doves and I have no idea how they got it. I've had them for years now and never had a problem with them. I want to know if you know of a natural treatment for them or what you would use. Thank you in advance. Signed Worried Bird Mom
I have a pied or speckled ring necked dove that is about 4 years old and he is very aggressive I don't know how I can calm him down also love the video has great tips in it
Very nice video even if its a year old. I've a ringneck that's so sweet, we are very close, he was saved from a cat, about 9 months ago. He loves my company, eg. If I had things to do the day and couldn't spend enough time with him, he gets pretty upset and fights with me. I saw the mating dance you mentioned, he does that to me all the time. Lol unfortunately or fortunately I haven't layed any eggs. One thing i would like to know when I rest my cheek on his feathers it like vibrates? Why is that. He also gets kinda upset, puffs his feathers makes a sound and is ready for fighting action, i usually alow him to have a fight with me, but don't alow it for too long, I guess he has to get rid of frustrations as well. Should I allow it? Thanks
I'm currently fostering a Eurasia ringneck(I think). He/she is not quite eating grains on his own, still feeding from a make shift syring with finger of glove rubber banded to it. Very good appetite & beginning to fly. I have fresh water in bowl & seeds in his enclosure but he doesn't touch the yet. I was told by the local rehabbed that these dives are invasive & they won't take them. Well I'm not just turning him out till he's ready. I am shocked at how sweet he us. He loves to hang out on my head or shoulder & love to be petted. What else can I feed him? I am feeding a mixture if the Kaytee dove formula for babies mixed with pulverized Kaytee dove seed. Should I introduce berries? Or? . I'm so glad I found this video. thank you! 😊
I'd recommend trying to introduce protein or supply thing's he or she is used too, like small berries, or grated raisens but HIGHLY recommend giving it mealworms or isopods and see if bugs are it's thing. But if they are eating seeds reguarly than a dove or parakeet mix sounds peachy,
Mine don't have a large but tall cage... but they're outside and flying free from the moment we wake up until we all go to sleep. Do you think it has any adverse effects?
My plan is to keep the doves caged next to chicken coop. Temperatures are hot in Tx during summer 70’s at night an low 80’s and 90’during the day. Winters low 30’s and 50’s the. Would provide heater in cold days. Any worries?
I have a question: is it suitable to own only one ringnecked dove or should I get 2? Do they get lonely? Are they sociable birds and need companionship? Thanks for the video.
Your doves are so beautiful, I just have a question, how did you get that nest the bird was laying in, or if there are any suggestions because I really need a bigger bird nest for my doves.
I’m a big fan of Diamond Doves. I don’t have any yet but might soon. Do you think the Diamond Doves or even these guys have the cognitive ability to be free flight trained? I did that with a Budgie when people said it wasn’t possible.
You can train diamond doves! I had mine for about 15 years. I trained him to come to me by clapping my hands. He knew the sound of my cars horn when I turned on the security system. He made a peeping noise just for me. I would say a diamond dove is on the same level as a parakeet.
I just adopted a dove and only know the bare minimum of what I’ve read in taking care of them. My knowledge of birds are mainly parrots. Is it normal for doves to be very talkative? I notice that mine will coo at me a lot when I walk in the room but also make an almost laughing sound. I just hope he/she isn’t stressed out 😅
Actually i have a pair of these doves, and they lay eggs almost every month, but they do not brood eggs for more than a week after which they break the eggs themselves
My dove does his mating call nonstop and dances for everyone. I want to hang with him but I'm not trying to excite him. How can I discourage this? I can't afford another dove rn. :(
I found a ring necked dove in NY who walked right up to me. Took her home, set up a cage and fed her immediately. After getting her a larger cage, I noticed she had bloody lumps on her back toes :’( it appears the perch that came with the cage was too skinny and she cut them with her own front toes. The perch is gone. I’ve been soaking her toes in warm water once a day and applying an antibacterial spray and Neosporin after. It’s been about 4 days and they are still swollen but don’t appear infected. She’s eating and flying normally. Should I take her in to the vet now for the swollen toes or wait a little longer? What else could I do to treat them at home?
I would continue what your doing for a few more days. If the swelling doesn’t go down then I would take her to the vet. you don’t wanna stress her out already more than she’s probably going through. Birds are such fragile creatures. You did a really good thing thank you.
Thanks for responding. I’ll continue the same for her for a few days. She hates the feet soaking but everything else is easy to do. She’s very gentle and will stay put for a sunflower seed. I think she was probably a pet before I found her.
My doves name is Braxton and I’ve had him since i was 7 years old. He’s the sweetest thing and super cute and just a great pet but unfortunately I’ve moved away for college and cannot care for him no longer💔though this saddens me I still want the best for him he deserves the best out of life🤍 I’d like to find a better home for my baby Braxton. I’ll start by posting on Instagram. Is there any advice or anyone you know that may want him. Thank you
