A dremel is a power tool. Every power tool is operated by hand. But you would not say done by hand if you used one. You could say hand made if you used a dremel and made it yourself. Done by hand implies using your own power, skill or ability to make something.
You make lively work! I'm really interested in seeing how you do joins between different kinds of wood. I've only worked with basswood so I'd like to give it a try some day
Instantly subscribed. Found you on Reddit, might be getting ahead of myself but my first set of woodcarving knives arrive in the mail tomorrow along with some basswood chunks. I'll be starting with wood spirit wizards to get a knack for faces..then I want to attempt this pendant! One day I hope to make a Cubone for my wife! Please keep making videos, I really enjoyed this! :D
Beautiful work! Got to try one of these with just a pocket knife. I have gouges and flexcut knives but still love just using my pocket knife. I have to subscribe to you. Thanks
Nice work. Does the walnut oil still soak in alright and last after such fine sanding? I thought fine sanding closed the pores off and why most wood workers only go to around 240grit and only go to super fine sanding like you if buffing with a polishing compound instead of oiling? I'm still learning so will be interested to hear your view. Cheers
@@SymanWoodcarving Yea I've seen them on Amazon, but their a little pricey for me currently. Maybe I can check my office lab, it's well stocked and has a bunch of tools. Thanks again and great video!
Hi Syman, I'm working on one of these, slightly bigger, out of Victorian Blackwood. Thanks for the tips. What grit stone do you sharpen your tools up to? I'm going to 1200 but think I'd benefit from going higher. Thanks again.
I’ve gave making one of these using your video and it turned out pretty good! However, I made it with basswood, how would you recommend dyeing it to give a similar couloir to what you made? Also any tips for sanding in the holes and tight spaces?
For sanding in the holes etc, best tip is to fold and crease the paper in small strips to squeeze it in. Don't be afraid to rip your paper into tiny pieces and fold them up to best fit what works for your project. Basswood can be a pain with staining as it's soft - make sure you surface is nice and even first and then use light coats.
Is there any way to make those holes without a dremel? I’d love to try making one of these but have no power tools unfortunately and don’t have the budget for it yet
It's certainly easiest to drill the holes with a power tool - you could also get a hand drill but I can't see it being much cheaper than a battery powered drill I'm sorry
If you use a carving knife to carve you won’t need to use all the extra tools and it’s stops the need to spend so much time sanding, might help you save some time
