How to catch a fish with a soda can without a rod 

I have seen kids in Mexico that can outfish most folks in 50K bass boats using a 2 liter soda bottle, mono found in a trash can and whatever lures they can scrounge. Of course fishing because if you do not catch anything the family goes hungry is a pretty good motivator.

This is how my dad taught me to fish. Today I own a boat.

That is how we fish in Puerto Rico when I was a kid. Soda Cans or a piece of PVC tube, fishing line, hook and sinker. Good memories :)

WOW! this works so well! Im an inexperienced fisher/ camping guy... but i managed to catch two fish and cook them within an hour of soaking in the outdoors over the weekend.

I haven't tried it - I imagine it might be hard to do a smooth retrieve, so that will effect the action of some lures. But other lures are designed for a jerky motion and should work fine.

@matthew E It's designed to catch small panfish, but if you do hook a large fish, it would all depend on your breaking strength.

My parents would fish like this years ago, i really enjoyed it. It is super cheap when on a budget.

A an intellectual boss of a Texan lady once told me that Dr Pepper is Prune Juice. Ive never got a carton of it + a can side by side to try it out though.. Do you think you could rig up a sapling to act as a rod to improve the cast? Maybe a paperclip or two to act as eyes for the line?
