I was supposed to fish with Ronnie Christie but he cried off and Steve kindly agreed to step in.
In this video I take to Pitsford Water in Northamptonshire with an old team mate and good pal Steve Cullen. Targeting big fish is something I have no experience with and this seemed like a golden opportunity to give it a go.
You can check out Steve's You Tube channel here / @stevecullenflyfishing...
We discuss the flies and tactics to put trophy Brown trout in the boat. I hope its entertaining and educational, I certainly had my eyes opened. Why not share your big fish secrets in the comments below.

The only thing more satisfying than a good rainbow or brownie in the landing net. Is watching them swimming back down to the depths. Ready to fight another day. A single fish deserves the chance to bring joy to many over several seasons. It is as the saying goes. Give a man a fish he eats for one day. Teach a man to fish. He for hours at a time for many years. Has peace from the family.

Cracking video. Pitsford seems to be getting quite the rep for high quality grown on brown trout. Steve is quite the fishing machine, love his approach to his fishing

Lindsay you are one lucky bu**er, being able to fish all these excellent fisheries reasonably near you, staying in the Central Belt of Scotland, I’ve got to travel a fair distance north to fish the Assynt Lochs, the only place near hand is Loch Leven but it’s difficult to get a boat these days. Keep enjoying your fishing mate. Regards Jimf

The Big Browns we've caught in a lake, were caught after midnight when it finally got dark. In the country we fish, any heavy breathing in the dark had best be your fishing partner and not something bigger looking for lunch!

The big Brown trout usually make an appearance early and late in the season. Not sure where they go in-between.

Wonderful video Lindsay, liked especially the descriptions of techniques and how it can be hard work but can also be extremely rewarding. How would you rate Pitsford as opposed to say draycote or Rutland. Cheers, English Dave.

Hi Lindsay, you mentioned that Steve had a double hook up. What sort of leader construction and separation of the droppers were you using? Were you using different flys on the dropper/s?
@lindsayiflyfish
@lindsayiflyfish 3 года назад
Steve was using 12lb breaking strain 7-8' of tippet to the first fly then 12-13' between flies. Two Humungus patterns different colours silver and gold I believe. hope that helps. I will be tying a Humungus variation on Tuesdays Stillwater pattern. Hope that helps buddy.

@@lindsayiflyfish big brownies in that environment makes the rainbows as fit as they are seem like comparing a six inch grayling to a fresh run sea trout. Skill set tackle and approach are soo different. On the last season that Bakethin above Kielder was open I was on a boat with a friend from High Spen caught a silver brown trout. Fin perfect less than two pounds. The most beautiful fish I had ever seen. Like a bar of liquid mercury. It had to be a wild spawned fish. One of four I was blessed catching and safely returned from there that season. Most were less than one and a half pounds. Ole fool with a few good memories
