Thanks Vincent. I'm going to try to do an onboard cooking series. Keep an eye out for a "boat goes up in flames" video.

i like the way you skin the Flathead, i use to leave them on the body and try to get the skin off that way, ill try your method next time.

Dude, always spike your fish and bleed your fish if you want to keep them. And do that Straight away. Keeps the meat fresh but more importantly It is the quickest death for them. Freezing or suffocating is definitely not. Nice way to die. The more people understand and practice it the better👍👍
@marxfishing
@marxfishing 5 лет назад
Yah, I spike them just before I clean them. I keep them alive, in the esky, and keep refreshing the water so they don’t suffocate. I do this because I release them all, if I don’t get enough for a meal. If I get more than I need, I generally release the bigger fish, as they are more likely to be productive breeders. So yah, I agree with your comment, but I do keep them alive onboard so I can make the best decision about which fish to keep, or put back, later in the session.

I find that bleeding fish is only really needed for pelagics, it doesn't make much difference with fish like flathead. I just put them into an ice slurry usually

just getting into buying my own gear for fishing, bought a few rods recently, looking for some nice rods for 2.5-4kg fish, any suggestions are welcome! :D Loved the vid too, some good sizes
@marxfishing
@marxfishing 5 лет назад
Yah know, I don’t use anything too expensive. For years I spent big money on rods and reels and in the end, found that many of the more modestly priced rods work just as well, if you know what you’re looking for. The Shimano Catana 2-4kg 7 ft is my personal favourite at the moment. You can find them for under $100 and I think they are as good as anything I have used.

Top end, out of Williamstown or St Kilda. I also fish out of Geelong and Clifton Spring sometimes.

Thanks! You know, I did have a go at that a couple of times and somehow ended up making a mess of it. Have you had success doing it with freshly killed, not iced, fish? I was wondering if worked better on fish that had been iced, and firmed up a bit? I’m keen to try again, seems like a much better way to do it.
@hamishhodgsonfishing7854
@hamishhodgsonfishing7854 5 лет назад
Marx Fishing nah normally we’ll have all the fish in a ice slurry
@marxfishing
@marxfishing 5 лет назад
Ok, I’ll give it a go that way. The way I do it does waste flesh around the rib cage, thanks for the direction.

Nice, but I think you made a couple of mistakes there. Please don't take it in the wrong way. N1:the most important is about safety reasons because you didn't realized that you have had a live flame just 50 cm far from the petrol tank. So you are lucky didn't jump in the air. N2:your esky lid is turned towards the sea. I would like to have it facing inside the boat. Think about it guys.once saying this with all my respect. 😉😎👍👋👋
@marxfishing
@marxfishing 5 лет назад
Lol. Didn't think about the fuel tank! Thanks for the heads up. I do keep the esky that way because the lid blows open otherwise (while underway), but you're right, could turn it around when we get some fish. That's actually some really good insight, thank you.

Launched from Patto and headed up the Yarra to the Casino and to st Kilda not long ago, great part of the bay. Love the cooking show, that's what we've been doing cooking what we catch so much better than taking lunch with you. Oh love the way you peel the skin might steal your technique. 😂
