Hi Wayne 30 years ago in the days before plastics my go to method was to use white bait on a little set of trebles, this could be used on an outfit normally used for plastics today, ie 2-4kg graphite rod and 3kg braid, the method I used was to cast out and lift the bait in about a metre then pause for 10 seconds or so then repeat all the way in, then moving and working an area..

alleycat I can tell you that it is still one of the best methods today.

I with I’d kept my side caster , think it was a brown Alvery Long time ago now! I’ll give the swivel between each hook a go after you explained it. Never tried it. That beach look bloody terrific as well. Nice video mate.

Oh, I love the Alveys. Being a kid from the 60s and 70s mainly around Brisbane, my dad primarily used Alveys back then. I was old enough to remember that the reels were wood back then. I was disappointed many years later when I walked into a tackle shop and all the Alveys were glass composites or something similar and way more expensive than my younger mind remembered. I still have good memories of being on the beach with him and he had a huge surf rod and an Alvey to match. But not with the 'ships wheel' (as I used to call it) drag. It was the old style, knurled wheel. I remember when dad bought his first one with the ship's wheel drag. Yeah, good memories of fishing Moreton Bay with dad over the years. Thanks for sparking them mate.

Always used the 4 oz star sinker beach fishin, in lighter conditions like yours I’ll try no weight or very small weight just to get it out there, nice fish by the way.

great video wayne....mate do you know where to find some yabbies to pump along the east coast from woody point to scarborough? (or do you have to go west of the bridge?) & knowing where to cast-net for bait fish (land based) would be helpful
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing 6 лет назад
No local yabbies but happy to help with casting for bait fish. Just contact me privately.

sorry wayne, i dont know how to do private contact on youtube (im really useless at computers)....wow, no local yabbies? i might've thought going west of the bridge would hold some at lower tide, thanks for the heads up

best yabbies would be Bribie. Email wayne@landandbayfishing.com.au

Sorry to be asking questions on such an old video, but what's the purpose of the swivels between the hooks in the gang? Why not just do them hook eye to hook shank?
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing 4 года назад
Smaller hooks on a full pilchard and much easier to bait up

Hey Wayne, thanks for the vid. My son and I were on Queens that morning, on the other side of the ramp. I'm the one who had to go for a swim to retrieve a floating lure !!! We couldn't raise a bump all morning - fishing plastics and deep divers. Could it be the flatties were sitting too deep, as in too far for us to cast to ??? I also thought with that water temp (pretty bl**dy cold as I recall) we'd have been a chance for a bream or two. I can always put it down to "that's fishing", but I'm also keen for advice so I can learn and improve. Cheers, Steve.

Steve Aitken next time come over and say hello. Flathead come in fairly close there so no issues with distance.

Hey just wondering if you have to reel the pilchard every couple of seconds or do you let the current do the work?
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing 3 года назад
When drifting in the boat the movement of the boat and current will do most of the work. Land based I like a slow burn and stop.

Hey Wayne how do you pick the structure? Maybe its the glare but hard to pick what structure is around to aim for. Great vid once again!!! Thanks for taking the time. Do you still sell Alveys, I'm heading to Forster for a month fishing sojourn on my own. Hence am looking for a direct wind 600 or 650 graphite or green lightweight off the rocks. I don't really want to use my beloved 700 cedar one of old.
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing

Peter Chatman regarding structure, I always check out locations at low tide. Re alveys I get mine from tackle land Sandgate.

Hey Wayne, are those boots water proof? Personally not into getting wet feet so those boots look like the answer. They look like they keep dry??
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing 6 лет назад
Spacey they are but doesn’t take much for the water to run over the top. Can get same sort of boots but taller.
