How To Catch Giant Redear Sunfish

As a die-hard, certified panfish freak, I have my eyes on Havasu for that long-awaited panfish trip of a lifetime! Thanks for posting!

I'm not much of a bed fisherman. Their doing their thing and I let them do it.

I always had luck catching big ol' redear using simple aberdeen hooks and redworms bunched up on the hook and using simple split shot weights, no bobbers. I often switch out to size 4 and 6 Eagle Claw Baitholder hooks when I catch bigger bluegill and redear. But yet, aberdeen and baitholders is what I use. Simple and effective.

I lost one close to 4 pounds last night. We got to see it but that last burst of energy broke line. Using crawlers with 4 lb test out on island side of channel.

i got two red ear sunfish about 3 inch in my 20 gallon tank. later or soon will transfer them into my 75 gallon tank. they are really unique and beautiful in their own ways. liked the dark spot and red ear they have
