In this episode we are fishing out of Anna Maria Island, Florida and we are targeting Hogfish on Rod and Reel. HogFish especially the giant ones are a fun strong fish to fight and are by far my favorite fish in the ocean to eat! When targeting Hogfish with hook and line it is not uncommon to catch many other species as bycatch because most other species also eat shrimp which is what were using for bait. Thanks for the great video and tips, Salty. Only ever caught one keeper hog. Catch lots of grunts and porgies though, so I must be in the right place doing something wrong. I usually use huggy jigs. Im going to try your method. If you ever need a camera guy or company to go scouting, I live just around the corner from you, and can go on short notice. Or you can come in my boat - I'm on Warner West Bayou. 😊 I can always learn from you.

Bro I absolutely loved all off the facts about where to and where not to touch or grab certain fish!! That helps more then you think it does especially for people like me that fish solely in fresh water since I live in northeast Oklahoma! Thank you for that and I’m still going to book a charter with you when I come down to my parents house in Apollo Beach and I have time to go!! Keep up the amazing work big man!!!! I’ve watched the dry tortugas series like 5 times lol!!! Absolutely loved that series, one of the if not the best series that you have done!!!

I like your teaching style as you fish. Just retired and learning saltwater fishing. Grew up in Plant City, FL. How deep of water are you finding Hogfish in? Any special bottom they like?

Thanks so much we find them in as shallow as 30ft on our coast and deeper as the water temp climbs. Ledges is what I primarily fish for them.

What are you typically looking for on the bottom to find hogs and how deep do you normally find them?

Wow Wow, easy easy, pump on the breaks make it easier on yourself and just book a trip with me to find out all the details. I find them in as shallow as 10ft and as deep at 110ft on this coast it ranges I find them on structure, hard bottom and ledges but mostly where there are sea fans.

@@flphil4537 the best things to look for is to zoom in and find sea fans also the type of bycatch is important if your catching key west grunts and porgy every once and a while you know your in the right area.

Bro you suck I cant believe the killer Hogfish you caught omg they were big boys. Good for you, I'm jealous 😂🐟💙. I'm over here in Miami and I come from Cuban decent we like to dip it in egg,then in Gilda cracker meal & deep fry after a squeeze of lemon/ lime which ever you have. Simple but delicious also killer way to eat Snook chunks. Great job man.✌
