Live flounders work the best to catch lingcod so be sure to stop off along a sandy bottom area, and hook some to use for bait. Lingcod fishing is open in most areas of Puget Sound with best choices being Possession Bar on the south side of Whidbey Island; the breakwaters at Elliott Bay, Shilshole and Edmonds marinas; Point Evans; south of Hat Island; southeast of Alki Point near the green buoys; and Toliva Shoal.

Absolutely appreciate your comment. Was totally green to Lingcod fishing (first Ling actually) and we definitely got carried away measuring the fish. I've learned a lot over the last year about fish handling, (sometimes from comments here on YT), and would have liked to keep the fish in the water next time, or if needing to pull it out to measure - at least minimize the time out of water 👍 Lings are luckily hardy fish, but I still agree to handle any fish with as much care as possible. Again, thank you for caring :)

Nice 42" ling! I'd rather get that than 36" keeper, any day! Funny how you guys insist in bringing bananas on board. Lol! That's another Fisherman's superstition, debunked. However, you should bleed your fish, right after you bonk them. The flesh will taste better because you won't be eating the blood, along with the flesh. Also, I'm not sure it's good for the fish to grasp him against your jacket. It takes away much of their protective slime, much like trout.

So is there a slot size on lings? Those are beautiful fish! I personally believe that lings and rock fish taste better than halibut.... but thats just me. For my education, what is your gear setup, other than the flounder jig? Looks like an Ugly Stik Tiger Stik. Great to see videos of people following the regs!
@NWFishingSecrets
@NWFishingSecrets 5 лет назад
There is indeed a legal slot of 26"-36" that you can keep Lings in. Different when you're spear fishing, or out in the open Pacific. And I totally agree! Cabezon & Lingcod are my favorite, followed by Halibut and Rockfish. Too bad Rockfish aren't at sustainable numbers yet in the Sound. And my full gear setup is in the video description on most of my videos, along with direct links to Amazon, so people can pick up the identical gear if they want! And thank you! While everyone makes a mistake here and there, we do try to follow the regs as well as we can, and try to educate others about them as well.

Nice fish. I was fishing off the rocks at Oakbay, Victoria. Caught 8 Lingcod but measuring from 30cm to 37cm. Too small to keep them. I take it that big legal size Lingcod are only catchable in deeper water ?

Hey bud. I think you could use a bit more work in how to handle a fish. That was an amateur release. A great catch but the longer you keep the fish out of water the more you put stress on him. Anyway nice catch.

grease the drags on that old Penn reel. fish that big should draw some drag.

Giant reef where we were fishing, so had the drag cranked down pretty much all the way so the fish wouldn't run into the rocks and break off 👍 🎣

Man, your videos are the best! I live in Utah and travel around the US fishing and Hunting. Hoping to get up to the sound soon. I usually use a fishing Kayak (pedal and trolling motor drive) and wanted to see if you had recommendations on where I could launch the Kayak and get on some drifts. If you ever get to Utah (Powell, flaming Gorge, high mountain trout/camping,, etc.) Let me know. I'd be happy to get you on the fish for some more awesome content!

Where in the sound is this? What's the depth? Don't make me rack my memory on the landmarks please.
