Video CORRECTIONS and ADDITIONAL TIPS: Corrections: 1) I kept saying swim jig. Swim jigs have jig skirts. I was fishing a swim BAIT 2) I kept saying water breaks, they are current breaks 3) 2:18 I said 1/8 inch, meant 1/8 ounce 4) 16:16 I said 6-6.5 inch, pole lol… I meant 6-6.5 foot Additional tips: Leave a comment, I’ll keep a running list here
lol I google “water breaks” just to make sure and all that popped up was “how to tell of my water broke when having a baby” so I think current break is better :)
Yeah I was seriously stuck lol, I couldn’t pull myself back to the middle of the stream and the current wasn’t even bad. Couldn’t imagine getting stuck in one of those when the current is crazy
Great info Houston, and some trick kayak maneuvers to boot!! It doesn't get any better!! Those were some nice smallies! Have you tried the Whopper Plopper 60? When I use the 90's in clear water it seems to spook the smallies too easily. The 60 seem to work better for me because of the lighter presentation. I even take the belly hook off to avoid hooking them in the eyes. Great info at the end of your video. I just took an hour or so last week and cleaned up about a 3/10 of a mile section of a creek you know well last week, and I filled up 2 large feed sacks, and I still didn't get it all. It is driving me nuts trying to clean up behind the lazy people. I have to clean up every stream that I go to. Thanks for the video.
I haven’t tried a 60 buts it’s on my list. I’ve started fishing Zara Puppies a lot and actually get better results with them. I think they are taking over my top topwater from the whopper. We still need to go!
Wow, this was going to be my favorite new RU-vid channel, but then you asked everyone to clean up small streams and then I knew this would be my new favorite. Couldn't agree more! I have read the smallmouth book as well and it has helped me and my son a lot. Great content. Appreciate your teaching spirit. I am in Minnesota and smallmouth are my absolute favorite, especially in small rivers like the one I live nearby. Thanks for the awesome content!
Man I really appreciate the comment! It means a lot. Thank you for the view and taking time to comment. Keep me updated on how your smallmouth fishing goes this summer.
Hello Houston long time always look forward to your uploads... You already know my expertise in smallies 1st thing is swimbaits nothing to it just cast along the current break or edge of slack water(hint- I use a underpin on my swimbaits gives it some extra flash, 2nd would ned rig even though its a snag magnetic pb&j color variation is my preferred color I use the current to drift extremely deadly presentation, 3rd one whopper plopper nothing to say pretty simple lure to use you explained good enough (sizes preferred 60-90), 4th option would be small to mid spinnerbait I tend to dress mine with a swimbait to give it more of a lively presentation 5th and final is the fluke cause its so versatile you can use it weighted un weighted its one of the lures give it a few flicks and let it sink so good... Great upload Houston and awesome catches.. #tightlines #strongjaw 💪🐟🎣👍
Dude I havent heard from you in a while, you back in town? you are awesome! I learned a lot from you when we went. We need to get back out there and do a kayak trip sometime soon!
@@Skinnyriver Remember we have that special event at the end of June that will be explained more very soon. Yes I'm back from Illinois should have a new fishing kayak and GoPros very soon as well great upload again Houston
Loved this Video SR, shame we dont have any bass in the uk, our small predators are Perch that go to 5lb average1\2 lb or the Pike, you've got me wanting to get back on the rivers again now, .....
Generally we dont eat them, they are considered a sport fish, some of the immigrants from various countries that have settled in the uk do and it can cause a bit of conflict to the ignorant anglers that dont know our byelaws, we are allowed to take 2 sizable fish a day but the average uk angler has no clue as to what he can and cant take so when they see people taking fish it can get a bit tense lol
Yeah it’s the same here for bass. It’s frowned upon especially in small rivers. I always catch and release unless it’s something that is actively stocked
