Alaskan guide Trevor Covich offers some insight on finding, fooling and catching silver/coho salmon on the fly. This is one of the world's great gamefish, thanks to its willingness to take a fly and its acrobatics when hooked. Filmed primarily by Trevor Covich with additional footage by Ben Paull. Music by Garrett Eaton. See more videos and unique fly tying materials at opskagit.com.

I haven’t been back to Terrace for three years - illness, Covid, life… But boy does this bring me back there! Thank you for a great video.

Well said; When they hold, they are the easiest to catch. I've noticed that on many rivers. Great Video.

I have a buddy who has caught a lot of silvers on a 5 weight rod but he has been fishing for years and knows what he is doing. You want at least a 7 weight rod or bigger to be on the safe side. 8 weight like Meze said would be better.

I fished with for Silvers on Alaska's Sapsuk River with Trevor the last two weeks of August 2017. He knows his STUFF!! I learned real quick that if I listened to him, I would catch a lot of fish, especially if he wasn't making me nervous by looking over my shoulder (LOL)!! If you are ever lucky enough to fish with him, be sure to ask him to put you in the "Dick Water" (LOL). LUV you guy!!

I'm currently steelhead fishing and the coho run finally is starting I'm fishing in a creek with a big dam our coho run here is small so we don't get a whole lot of them The middle pool is about 14 ft deep shallower as you get closer to shore what would you recommend I tie my own maribou jigs do you think that will work and should I fish deeper or shallower

Love your work guys. I just moved to Olympia from CT and I was wondering if you guys could help me with some advice on a couple things. What materials would be best to start tying steelhead and cutthroat flies with. I am somewhat new to fly fishing and brand new to tying. Also I have a 4 weight sage approach with a sage 2230 reel. Very light. I was wondering if possible, how to go about setting this rod and reel up with your skagit line. Thank you in advance for any advice you have. Keep up with good work!

Hi, Nice video, thank you! I'm newbie in fly fishing, is "300 grain commando head medium mow tip" a polyleader?
@OPSkagit
@OPSkagit 4 года назад
Nope. A 300 grain Commando Head is a Skagit-style Spey Casting Head, The MOW tip is a Sink Tip used on the end. This cannot be attached to your existing fly line.

How are the returns there? over the past decade, there have been at least 2 failed returns and 2 that were so so weak. Before that, it was always possible to limit out (6) within hours of dangling a line. Everyone is looking for reasons but nobody really knows. It ranges from climate change, el nino, etc, to disease, and commercial fisheries.

Hate to sound like an idiot, but WHAT peninsula are you referring too? I used this video and a couple others from OPSKAGIT to help tie some flies before an Alaska trip last July. Worked out great. I came back to this video because, given the company name, like an idiot I assumed it was filmed on the Olympic Peninsula and in the actual Skagit. Was just trying to plan a trip with a buddy in the lower 48 to try and recapture some of that July Alaska action, and this video came to mind immediately. But now I'm thinking that was nuts and this kind of action just doesn't exist in the lower 48. So... which peninsula are you referring to :)

Not Washington..!!!! This is clearly not our state if you have fished it, and know ur way around our own peninsula.

these videos are okay. What I would really like from OPST Pure Skagit. Is what wt rod choice they are using. Then since the Skagit system has so many variables. It would be nice to understand what commando head they chose with which tip and why. Grain / float / sink? The which leader length and why it was chosen. as in what leader was used to throw the flies he was tying? Or what might be recomended for leach flies, dali lama flies, skulpin fly patterns. or fast moving rivers when you need to sink the fly fast and deep. I can watch all kinds of videos on salmon fishing that are just fun to watch. But if you are selling a product, at least explain what your product is and how you apply it. Getting frustrated with no info on the skagit system. And the videos show these wide open spaces with all kinds of room to cast. Not like they advertise as being able to cast a good distance with very little room. And if you are fishing for salmon, you are most likely using a rod wt greater that 5wt. There are wwwaaayyy too many videos about trout fishing. I now way too much about trout fishing and not much about Skagit Salmon fishing. a company located in great Salmon Fishing region. I might just stick to what I know. was hoping to find something I can cast while in the water backed up against a bank with heavy shrubbery behind me. Not another boat floating fly fishing video with all kinds of room to cast.

Thanks for the feedback. There are plenty of videos on our Channel that shows us casting up against the bank, and several when we explain what we're fishing with. If you have specific questions please send an email to info@opskagit.com and we'll be glad to help!

2.5 minutes of nothing but music is a terrible waste of users time. Cut that down to :15 at most or use voice-over during the video playtime of the fish. Waiting to see you sit around and talk about silvers is going to cause a lot of people to leave the video early. Know your audience!
@riffraff1880
@riffraff1880 5 лет назад
test user actually, I really liked it... the music kept me tuned in. I thought it was really well put and edited. You want my opinion? You are just jealous and you can only wish that you could make a video as good as these guys. Get out of here hater, no ones got time for people like you. And if your going to give a comment about how someone should make edits, do it in a nice way in which they will want to listen. Now scat!
