Ross, AWESOME VID.... amazing how you took your time and I've always wanted to know and understand this information. This set up is something anyone could learn and practice sitting at home on a sunday or rain day, AWESOME.
Great tutorial Capt. Ross! I've been following your videos.... Can you please let me know what is the best month to fish Tampa Bay using your spinning reel and Hogy Lures. I heard it was illegal to jig in Boca Grande but legal in Tampa?
do you know if tarpon stay year round in tampa bay i live in the area and would like to target them. i know they run in the summer but wonder if some are still here
Informative vid, thank you. I haven't ever doubled up my braid but will going forward. I have run 40lb floro and have been broke off many times. I always worry that going to 60 plus leaders may decrease the bite. I do my fishing at night in clear water, do u think going fr 40 floro to 60 mono could inhibit some of the bite?
I use 130 lb mono and get decent action. Then again I fish from land and need a heavier leader. 40 lb test leader is next to worthless for a tarpon of substantial size. It will work for the fish under 50 lbs, but for bigger ones it won’t cut it. I’ve had 100 lb get frayed off in the past.
Nice vid captain! I live in cape coral and enjoy targeting these fish as well. I have been about those Hogy's being great but have never used them much. Do you just swim them slowly up top or twitch/pause type retrieve?
When I'm using mono at night, in dirty water conditions, I like the Triple Fish 80lb Mono. In clear water condtions, I'll usually start with 50lb Seaguar Blue Label.
Tarpon is hard to catch like HELL, first of all, it jumped right out of the water everytime i pull it back. Secondly, its soo heavy that i almost let it go. Third, fuck it.
