Love your work. I am a retired senior now and have a wheel and kiln plus a ton of supplies all sitting unused so decided to get back in and get my hands dirty again. It's an old kick wheel with a motor but it should get the job done and no better place to start than to get some tips on centering. I am sure it's like riding a horse, but never hurts to get some tips from a master thrower like yourself. Cheers mate !!
Coning for me is done because I don't have a pugmill and always want to try to get rid of any air bubbles. Haven't been potting long enough to trust my wedging fully.
Bonjour, As usual I look at you with great pleasure. I think that it is as important to be sat at the good distance and at the good level on the seat. (We never see how to do ). Amicalement François ( suburb of Paris )
Coning has also been shown to mix the clay itself by causing the outer and interior of the clay to fold in and over on itself. But, if your clay is already an even consistency and well-wedged, yeah. Coning isn't suuper-necessary.
I took two clay classes in high school over 10 years ago, but even knowing this technique back then, I could never get the clay centered. No matter how many times I tried, I just couldn’t get it. My friend always did it for me so the teacher wouldn’t dock points. lol
