excellent video..I have just had to pay £60 for an electrician to put in a new light because all the wires went everywhere. You have shown very easily where I went wrong.

No problem, a top tip would be to take a photo of any wiring before you start taking anything apart. That way, you can see if anything is wrong and give you something to reference.

Thanks for the video, swapping a standard white light fitting to a flush fitting glass one, what weight would plasterboard be able to hold ? The fitting from Next weighs 2.5kg

Great video mate. However, do you not need to put the connector blocks in a maintainable free box such as a wago box if its going in the ceiling or flooring?

Yeah, if you push them into the ceiling void that is inaccessible, but if there is space in the light fitting, then they can stay there without any box.

Sorry for dumb question, is it OK to install a socket upside down for convenience. It makes easier to plug the TV in without bending the wire. Is it safe to do so ?

Yeah, there is no problem with that so long as the wires reach the terminals!

Hi, I’ve got a light fixture from IKEA that only has the live and neutral terminals and I’m trying to change a pendant fixture which I suppose has a live, neutral and ground… what do I do with the ground in this case please? Thank you so much in advance!

Put all the earth's (green and yellow) together into a connector, but don't connect them to the new light. The new light fitting is double insulated and does not require an earth! Hope that helps you?

I would say the green wire is the earth. Does the black wires have any other markings or are there any markings on the connector?

@FixitwithFowler wow thanks for the quick response! No there are no markings. The black covering on the both the wires is peeled back a little on the left connector. I can see that the wire colour underneath is blue. Does that help?

Would you not need an earth fly lead from the light itself which is attached to the metal light bracket in the ceiling?

In my utility room the ceiling light, I assume, is the last light in the whole chain because there is only one wire coming out of the ceiling, and the blue goes into neutral terminal and the red goes into live terminal (double terminal). I believe in this case we don't have live switch neutral with a red tape on is because this is the last light in the whole chain and there are no need for the red wire to be in the loop. Please tell me If I'm right 😅

Yes you are absolutely right. You have struck gold because there is no fancy wiring to do or alterations. Just connect the new light exactly the same!!!

I did exactly the same and still not working but, on my case, one of the cable that comes out from the ceiling has 4 wires🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️, perhaps that’s the reason

Hi, did you take a photo of the existing light before you took it down? Then you can double-check the wiring!

@@FixitwithFowler the new light is connected to a 3 gang switch that’s controlling the light outside, downstairs in the hallway and upstairs
