If your fuel gauge is not working then you may have a hole in the sending unit float or a bad sending unit. In this video I will show how I switched it out.
Hey there, i have a 91 also,back in 09 i did a whole fuel system overhaul, tank, injectors,regulator, pump and sending unit,all this was corroded due to using ethanol which i stopped using after i got everything put back together, at the end of 2015 the sending unit failed, took the tank down and the float was in the tank just floating there,put a new one in ,2 days ago i was coming home and i noticed my gauge was at zero so i suspect it has failed again. The last one i put in i inspected before i put it in and that float didn't look very good,it had what appeared to be a little piece of plastic broken off so i knew it was gonna cause problems, finding a NOS is next to impossible and if you do they want a fortune for it,damn china crap,im so tired of it,thank you for the video, even though i know how to do this i still enjoy watching it!!
Just a tip if i may, Ive done this like 6 times (to change faulty sending units and to change the pump for a upgrade) you should remove your neck first,its easy as pie and then lower the tank,you can also install your neck after everything else is bolted in,i always put a little Vaseline or grease on the big side grommet and it slides right in like butter!!
I am a lil nervous about dealing with the fuel tank but watching your video makes it look fairly easy and stright forward (thank you for posting) is it there anything else I should know before I tackle this job like draining the gas or gas leaking from the hoses
Make sure to use safety glasses and be ready when disconnecting the hoses, They may be under pressure. Have all your parts ready first including the fuel filler neck grommet. When installing the fuel neck into the grommet a little dish soap or grease will make it easier. While the tank is out make sure to clean the tank out real well and be on the lookout for the filter that may have fallen off of the fuel pump. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching
Easier to remove the fuel lines at the fuel filter. Also, drain as much fuel from the tank as you can, much easier to manhandle an empty tank than one that has 5 or more gallons in it!
