Thanks for the video! There is a spot on the saw base that holds the wrench pretty good. Back right.

You are right. There is a storage spot. It's just handy having it close by on the wall. Thanks for watching the video.

Smokes! Thank you for this video. Two years later and this video still has great value. I have the DWS780 and it's impossible to get a new blade in without damaging the dust shroud unless you loosen that rear guard screw. The directions mention nothing about loosening that screw, but without doing that, you'll never get the blade in there without flexing the blade and scratching it. As @kamac1980 mentioned, the screw in the shroud behind the guard bracket should be backed out as far as possible, as well. DeWalt engineers made a poor design on this one.

It's sad that most of the power tools you buy have really cheesy manuals. Thank goodness for youtube! Once you get the hang of it, and back out the right screws, in only takes a few minutes to change out the blade. Just takes a little practice. Thanks for your comments.

Good video! I changed the blade on my DW779, but the blade froze in place and would not spin, so I put the original blade back on. This blade was fine. The old blade had a 5/8” arbor, the new one had a one-inch arbor, so I used the included adapter to install it. I don’t know why that new blade bound up and would not turn. The original blade reinstalled just fine and cuts quite well. Maybe I will just send that new blade back and forget about it. Can’t figure it out, I used the same method on both blades, aside from using DeWalt’s own adapter.

Are they 10" or 12" blades. My 12" Dewalt blades have a 1" dia. hole in the center. I have a 5/8" X 1" arbor to adapt it to the saw. You can probably tap the 5/8" adapter out of the old blade and tap it into the new blade and you will be good to go, that is if they are both 12" blades.

you weren't kidding when you said it was a really tight fit, its beyond annoying trying to jam a blade back in there, it seems there is a pair of set screws in the back of the metal shroud that interfere and scratch up the face of the blade as you put it in. I wonder if backing out one of the screws wouldn't be a bad idea to make it easier?
@deerparkhomeshop2471
@deerparkhomeshop2471 Год назад
The screw on the left side, in particular, doesn't seem to have a purpose, so it can be backed out a ways. The left does not really come in to play. The problem with getting the blade in is that I have to angle it a bit to get it past the saws arbor. If they would have made the guard assembly 1/2 inch wider, it would have really made it easier. Thanks for watching.

@kamac1980 Wow, the worst guard/shroud design I've seen for blade changes. I have the DWS780, and as you noted, I had to back out the screw in the shroud to roughly jam the blade in. The screw serves no purpose and must be for a different variation of the saw. Even with loosening all of those screws, the arbor scratched the s#!% out of my CMT blade and the teeth rubbed against the left side of the shroud.

What is that piece behind bushing adapter mine came out
@deerparkhomeshop2471
@deerparkhomeshop2471 9 месяцев назад
You are asking about the piece that is on the motor side of the blade assembly, right? That piece is basically a washer and it is loose allowing it to spin with the blade. So if it comes off, don't be alarmed. You can just reinstall it with the wider, flat side against the blade.

Hello so let's say the bolt holding the blade in place was stripped how F'd are you?

I've never had this happen. but it might be corrected with a tap & die set. If your not familiar with their use, let the repair shop do it. Hopefully they won't have to do more than that. Don't try to force it because that might make it worse. Be sure to respond back and let me know how it turns out.

Hello sir, I’ve seen a couple of your videos but a first when replacing or repairing. One of the biggest problems with how-to videos are the steps omitted by the author. We cannot take it for granted by assuming the individual knows all on the subject matter. In this case, as I’m following along, I had a problem with the saws bolt holding it in place. And then with the blade lock not locking in place. It doesn’t. And that step should be addressed. I’m no novice but for a second I thought my unit was defective. As I kept pressure on the blade lock to loosen the blade mouth bolt the aluminum shroud blocked it’s progress. That needs to be addressed. To loosen the shrouds screws enough for the blade mount bolt to clear it when loosening off the blade. These little steps become important to the first time viewer of your videos and you will be recognized emphatically by them. Both my boss and I have the same shower faucet by Moen. One Saturday morning we both (unbeknownst to each other) had to replace the cartridge to it. We both watched the same video for replacing this easy task. Or so we thought. The author failed to include the removal of the pin that keeps the cartridge from moving and falling out during replacement. We are both big guys and had thoughts to yanking the stubborn part. It was the first replacement in 20 years (for both of us) and thought age was the culprit of an easy removal. I had to watch many videos until the Godsend included that all too important step. If you don’t know what I’m talking about you will never know it exists. It’s a brass horseshoe pin and as flat as a gum wrapper in between the cartridge and flange with a sliver of material to employ a needn’t nose pliers to extract it. Luckily, the planets were aligned for me to find that video. My boss had his 3 sons on a mission to call, search the net and go door to door and ask. All 3 returned with the vital information at the moment he was going to succeed on yanking the faucet from the wall. He pulls the retaining pin with ease and holds it up in its mighty sparkling glory shinning for all to see…… until the pin drops into the drain. That is another story. But you get the idea of a step by step instructional video that includes each step and a little more info when a problem arises. Those who think they are not necessary and are a waste of time or feel its beneath them to include such steps will notice no subscriptions or “likes” to any videos. The hierarchy is not based on knowledge of trade but how good a teacher you are in these videos. It is your prerogative to forgo my opinion as this is just that-an opinion. These frantic in search for solutions will become regular RU-vidrs. First with the savior of the video that saved him or her. But will pass on the ones who did not do anything for him especially those in business (many business types omit crucial info) and the videos of the “higher caliber” or so they think. I’ve spent a lot of time with your video, sir. By way of comments. Why? Twofold. First, I’m tired of omitted info. Second, I do like your videos and I feel you will take my comments as constructive criticism for all of us to benefit. Thank you, Mike

First, I do appreciate constructive criticism, because I want to continually improve my videos. However, my wife and I re-watched the video and we couldn't see any missing steps. It then dawned on me that, although the video shows my right arm in place as I depress the pin, I didn't specifically say that you have to continually depress it as you loosen the retaining bolt, so that was a miss on my part. Is the aluminum shroud you're referring to the drop down plate that covers the blade retaining bolt?. If so, when you back out the bolt to free the plate, there is a raised lip on the bottom edge of the plate, and when you tighten the bolt it should come to rest on that lip, holding the plate up and hence allowing access to the blade bolt. You can then drop the blade guard and it will rest on the shroud bolt. This is covered between 1:20 min. and 2:30 min. in the video. Next depress and hold the blade locking pin on the right side of the saw, rotate the blade until it locks, and back out the blade retaining bolt with the supplied T30 wrench to remove the blade. I hope this clears things up a bit. If not, feel free to reach out to me again.
