I'm here cause my 2000 Chevy Blazer was leaking from the bottom. I took it to couple of people and they say it's the water pump and didn't help me fix it. So I'm here watching you my good sir to see how it is done. This is my first vehicle and already have a second problem and that's the water pump. My first problem was the oil change and I came to the video you showed on how to change oil and filter. Helped me alot, so I'm hoping this will help me out as well. And I also had a question "Does a water pump have to a specific type or can any water pump be used in them" sorry I'm still learning
@HubersRanch
@HubersRanch Год назад
It will be a vehicle specific one for the V6 Vortec from GM. Go to your autoparts supplier and tell them what year, make and model you have and what engine and they will get you the right pump. Don't forget the gasket for it

I don't need to replace W/P on my 02 Sonoma 4.3 yet but when l replace the radiator tryed to remove the fan and l had no idea how to do it. So l worked with it on the way no problem. But recently l fix my Buick w/p and have new one for a Jaguar wich are right at the top of engine and very easy to do both. But never imagine what you explained and showed to remove the fan. Thanks for this very illustrative video. I learned from you about the 36" 🔧 wrench and the wonder home made tool working together. Just l like to add a tip that works better than hammering on 🔧 wrench. A piece of pipe inserted on the wrench to leverage or another 🔧 wrench with close end engaged on top of the open wrench. That gives you more pushing force and better stability for filming. Thanks for this tutorial now l know how to do it if w/p on my Sonoma comes to fail. Meanwhile l'm going look for a piece of flat metal piece to make the special tool but l will like to fix to it a round piece of pipe as a handle. Good job. I paused video to coment, now l'm returning to finish see it and go to 2 part

Thank you for your very informative video.I was wondering about the special tool. Now I know what can actually be done that will work. My truck is a 2003 crew cab 4x4. Its 15 years old. This is the first water pump. This truck has been great for a truck that sees as much abuse as this one.I rarely have to work on it, except for routine maintenance. Thanks again.

I had a nice spanner wrench to hold the water pump pulley when I did mine, but one guy I saw used a big C clamp on the pulley horizontally from the bottom and the long screw sticking out hit and stopped it from turning and he used a big crescent wrench on the nut.

I've knocked off many 4.3 clutch Fans. Just put a 36mm or a big Crescent Wrench & 1 smack with a hammer is all it takes. Maybe I've been lucky but I've never had 1 that was stuck or that took more than 1 good smack to knock it loose

Great video. Getting ready to do the same on my 2001 blazer. Looks like you could put a square tube or pipe on your car stock and let it touch ground for bracing then you'd have 2 hands for wrench and hammer. Just a thought. Can't tell if room from video but i'll know soon enough with mine. Thanks again for the informative video.

After removing the fan, next time crack the four pulley bolts loose before you take off the serpentine belt. The belt will hold the pulley in place while you break them loose.

If u use another crescent wrench and interlock them you will get it loose without hurting yourself

Two recommendations. 1. Get rid of the Fram oil filter, most anything else is better. 2. Get rid of that DexCool. If you already have the system open, you might as well flush that garbage out. Yes it is a bit more work to flush it all out but your gaskets will last longer. NEVER mix DexCool with regular coolant as it has been known to gunk up the system.
@HubersRanch
@HubersRanch 5 лет назад
Thanks gor the tips. I don't think it is dexcool anymore. In Switzerland all engine coolant is pink. Not sure if that means we use the same stuff like dexcool is but you can't get anything else.

Put another wrench over the end of your 36mm for leverage it will break loose easier then hammering bro.

Hi, I'm facing this now, to replace my 2000 Jimmy radiator. What is the spacing for the holes in the home made flat bar tool? Thx for the video. Can't believe how helpful so many have been, for this 7rl job resurrection of my son's Jimmy, which was left to me.

Oops, just going along, notice that only 1 bolt hole was used. What did it brace against?
@HubersRanch
@HubersRanch 5 лет назад
It braces against the pulley where the fan is screwed on. You are basically pushing with it in the opposite direction of the nut you are loosening. Hope this helps.

I'm a 61 yr old woman that weighs 116, do you think I can change my water pump? The bolts are the hardest for me. Get a big socket in the open end and hit the handle of the ratchet holding the socket.

better off using a big crescent wrench on the fan and hitting it hard and fast to the left if you are facing the motor. 9/10 times it will break free.

Decided I will replace thermostat now too! This should be addressed at this time as well? You agree? And if any questions on the hoses? Replace now huh?
@HubersRanch
@HubersRanch 4 года назад
If it is the first pump you are replacing on it, chances are it's the original thermostat, so I see no issue replacing both at the same time. If the hoses are feeling hard or looking worn, replace them. If you have the cash and feel like doing it, just replace them anyway along with the hose clamps.
