Good job on showing what I'll be getting into when I do my 2007 mazda 5 this weekend, I'm glad it's not like the 2012 model year cuz its way deep in the trans n a after market fix is available with a separate filter
i have read the document before. Alot of local transmission shops put mercon 5 in :D i even heard of mazda dealers using it because the mpv and m5 is way to expensive
I have another question. Mazda says they usually don't drop the pan but even if they do they just wash the filter and reuse it. But more importantly they use that silicon gasket. Do you suggest to use a metal gasket that comes with the filter, the way you did, or putting the silicon gasket, that mazda actually has for sale.
Hi, Great video, I just heard a sound in my car mazda 3 and is not passing 40 mph,, I checked the ATF and there is a light color on the tip of the mesuring device or between 2 lines, how much fluids do you think it needs?
this is a mazda 3 right? and also what are the problems that cause when the transmission filter is dirty ? like my car sometimes is slow to start and takes kinda long to make a change
Question for you...I have an automatic 2007 Mazda3 Sport (hatchback..I think I have a GS?). My question is what exact products did you use? I see the Fram FT1210 filter kit, but I'm not sure where to find it (I'm from Canada). Also, is that Castrol Import MV ATF? The latter is easy to find at Wal-Mart, and thanks for the video. I'm debating doing it myself because a shop wants to charge me around $160 to flush/change it (I just got the car used...I prefer to start off with new fluids as the oil has just been changed). Please let me know. Thanks!
If you call your local auto parts they should be able to confirm the fram filter for your car. The hardest part of the procedure is seperating the pan from the motor
I finally decided to change the transmission fluid on my 2006 mazda 3. It had 160,000 miles. I'm the second owner of this car, and I doubt the first owner change it. Quick question: The transmission filter kit I bought had a rubber seal. My mechanic did the whole thing. I constantly check for leaks and there was none. Would the rubber seal hold as strong as the rubber seal?
Hey Ghostly. I have a 2007 Mazda 3 GX Sedan, I just want to do the fluid change. Not sure if you know, but would you suggest I just drain the fluid, put back the plug, and refill with the right amount ? Thanks.
Okay great thank you, another question for you if you don't mind my friend.. I have my owners manual here, and on page 10-5 it says my car holds roughly 7.2L or 7.6QTS (US). Now my car is automatic, and a 4 speed I believe in my model, I don't want to over fill it. I just see your saying its 3.5 QTS? What type of fluid do you recommend for my Mazda with 157,000KM on it. My fluids a light brown, and needs to be changed soon, but no panic, and has been fairly well maintained. Appreciate your help, have done loads of work to my vehicle because of your instructional videos, keep it up !
I have 19 bolt transmission that I am having trouble finding the filter and gasket. It's for a 2007 Nissan Versa hatchback. Any suggestions? I've tried the dealer and auto stores.
Hi I have a mazda 3 05. The transmission fluid is brownish but the car shifts fine. Can I get away with just changing the transmission fluid and not taking out the filter?
Question, I changed out my fluid and filter this weekend and not wanting to tighten the plug too tight ended up leaving it a little loose. Had a small drip, tightened it back up no problems. Checked the fluid yesterday and it was only coming up to maybe a 1/3 on the 20 degree C side. So I added a little more fluid and this morning the damn thing leaked again. Any thoughts?
How hard was removing the pan after the bolts were loosened? I'm going to want to change the filter soon & I have a large flat head screwdriver but I'm nervous about scoring the pan or the other part.
EverythingisFire once you break the seal it's good you can try heating it a bit to make the seal loosen up a bit. Try a drywall scraper also known as a puddy knife first
Manual says to use ATF M-V. What does M-V mean? Where did you get your fluid and what was it called/brand? On a different video someone said to use M5 instead of M-V. Confused on what to buy. Your thoughts are appreciated! Thanks for the great video.
To anyone watching to this point the transmission fluid is M5 or M-V but is NOT Mercon-V, M5 is a Mazda OEM transmission fluid, i think know there are some other manufacturers that meet the requierements of Mazda's M5 i think Idemitsu Type-M is one of them.
Great video man. But quick question.. I can't find any videos on how to change the transmission filter for a Mazda 6. Seeing as the cars are both Mazda do you think it'll be close to your mazda 3 when changing it? Just trying to gauge what I'll be like when I lift my car up and take the plastic guard off.
My daughter has a Mazda 6. We bought a filter kit for it at our local parts store. After putting the car on jack stands and looking extensively for a drain plug and pan, we couldn't find the pan. We did find a drain plug and pulled it. We got about 3 qts. of automatic transmission fluid out. The only pan we could find was on the front of the transmission (just under the airbox) so we pulled it. Wrong! No filter, Just a bunch of control solenoids. We decided we either had the wrong filter (parts store's mistake? (they gave us a Fram FT-1210 filter kit which fits a Mazda 3)) or it's not easily accessible. We decided to just flush out the old fluid with new stuff. This worked very well. It took about 9 qts. This made a noticeable difference in the performance of the transmission and we feel it was worthwhile. If you find any good information on this please post a link here. CAUTION: This transmission takes special fluid. Make sure you use the right stuff. Good luck.
My 2006 Jetta has a rubber gasket and 8 spacers that get inserted. It does not need RTV. I am glad that stuff is not on there. That stuff it pain to clean off and the only thing worse would be to use too much and have that floating around in the transmission pan and sucked into the filter. Too much of that can clog the filter and destroy the transmission if enough of it squeezes out into it. The torque for the bolts is only 5 ft pounds maybe less and I would imagine that other cars are similar.
do u know why my car would sometimes not want to shift into a higher gear? sometimes the AT light comes on and it may shift 1, 2,3 then wont shift to 4. Any suggestions?
Hi bro I have 2006 Mazda 3 more then 2000 miles, since yesterday it's not going to 3rd and 4rt gear and say At front of D if I change filter and fluid will it fix the problem ?
adnan atta drain the fluid and look in the pan for metal like i do in the video if you find allot of metal in the pan you will definitely want to take it to a mechanic
If I just do a drain and refil... Only 3 quarts of oil will come out draining from the pain correct? Therefore there it wouldnt be necessary to buy 8 quarts for the 2.3L Engine.
I changed fluid and filter on my 2006 mazda 3s 2.3 l auto with castrol multi vehicle not import and now I have slippage bottle said M-V compatible was shifting better befor what could I be ?
Nice work spilling all the fluid on the floor…. The gasket is made of silicone and steel brush removes it. You use no silicone if you have a rubber gAsket
i know this video it very old to comment on but i have an issue with the hose connections to the left of the radiator pan the two nipples on the face of the circle on my mazda 3 do not have hoses connected to them. I believe they are the intake and out for the transmission fluid to the radiator but which is which so i can repair it. i noticed the mazda 6 has a similar set up.
This is direct from the factory manual but it's assuming your torquing with sealant instead of a rubber gasket. 6-8 N·m {62-81 kgf·cm, 54-70 in·lbf}............NOT FOOT LBS* I suppose you can try it at the lowest setting ( 54 inch lbs ) and make sure the gasket doesnt expand too much if you opt to use the rubber gasket. If it doesn't increase the torque until your happy with it but don't pass 70 in-lbf
I have mazda 3 2010, but i never flush my transmission and its 116,300 M . Do u think its safe to flush the transmission coz i heard a lot of horror stories ..
Initially you say add 3 qts of fluid, but then you say if you wanna flush it drive for two months and then add 3.5 qts. Why is that? Why would I add more if after filter change it only took 3 qts?
Irakli Chakaberia takes 3.0 to 3.5 quarts sorry for the mix up what allot of people will do is run 2 months on the tranny fluid then dump it again and refill it to get as much new fluid in as possible
ghostlyrich Thanks. I am gonna do it this weekend. My tranny started acting up, jerked a few times yesterday while driving with AT light coming on. I hope cleaning and filter swap and refill will fix the problem.
ghostlyrich Also, the gasket that come with the filter from autozone is rubber, is that all right? In your video you say metal. www.autozone.com/filters-and-pcv/transmission-filter-a-t/duralast-transmission-filter-a-t-/mazda/mazda3/2006/4-cylinders-2-3l-mfi-dohc/973586_227878_0_187607/
If your fluid is black never do a flush, only change the fluid, and if your Mazda 3 ATF is M-V you can use liqui moly top tec ATF 1200 instead coz that M-V shit is so expensive in Europe.
2004 - 2008 Mazda3 A/T uses ATF M-V (TYPE M5) 0000-77-112E-01 NOTE • ATF M-V (TYPE M5) IS NOT THE SAME FLUID AS MERCON®V ATF. • ATF M-V (TYPE M5) HAS A GREATER VISCOSITY THAN MERCON®V ATF IN LOW TEMPERA-TURES. • ATF M-V (TYPE M5) HAS A GREATER ANTI-JUDDER SPECIFICATION THAN MERCON®V ATF. CAUTION:• USING ATF OTHER THAN ATF M-V (TYPE M5) IN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS DESIGNED TO USE ATF M-V (TYPE M5) MAY CAUSE SHIFT QUALITY COMPLAINTS. • USING ATF OTHER THAN MERCON®V IN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS DESIGNED TO USE MERCON®V MAY CAUSE TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. pdfslide.us/documents/mazda-service-bulletin-05-005081928.html
