Wow thanks for the tips! This is brilliiant - and so needed!! Been so often frustrating with my attempts at editing the CLO avatars.. messing up the corresponding measurements when going in the wrong order or playing with the height measurements..

This is interesting. I played around with Clo in 2018 for a while with a view to patterning corsets. This type of very close fitting garment had its challenges in Clo. Back then the avatars were quite basic and it seems they have made improvements as lots of users wanted to get something closer to their own measurements. I also played around with DAZ Studio and ended up making an avatar there and fro memory I think I saved it as an Obj file then imported it into Clo. Was much easier to morph the model in DAZ without distortions. It seems cup size is still something out of reach for the Clo user though. I use overbust measurement and bust circumference when patterning womens clothing. I feel it gives a better indication of cup size. The problem with DAZ was that detailed measuring metrics are a paid plug in whereas the Clo measuring tools are great. Its a shame though that you have to jump to and from different platforms to achiecve a better result.

They've recently updated the avatar editor and it is supposedly much better. I need to play around with it and potentially make and updated version of this. But yes, the bust is one area CLO has always struggled with. That and rises/heights of things. Browzwear probably does the best job for fit currently, but I hate the interface.

Hi, just playing around with this some more. At 5:27 you mention advanced options eg the Dress Form pull down etc. I don't have these but it seems if I hit the gear icon I can see and select all the advanced measurements. Im using 2024.1 so wonder if in the latest update Clo dispensed with these menu drop downs and just allow users to select what specific measurement datums they want to use?

Hi there, yep. This video is in an outdated version of CLO. They’ve made quite a few updates to the avatar editor and I plan to make an updated version of this soon!

I created custom avatars for different sizes, but I can't really change the poses for them, the avatars distorts when I do so. Also this only happens when the avatar is wearing any garment.

It’s best to change the pose without any clothes on. Just use your blank avatar, can be any size, and pose how you like. Then go to file>save as>pose. It’ll save a .pos file. Put that in a folder you’ve added to your library. Then open your file with your garment on the avatar and double click the pose file and your avatar’s pose will change.

I recently downloaded clo3d. You say in the video that each avatar has its own folder.. but mine doesn't. It also only has 3 avatars and I understand there should be 6. Any ideas where I could learn to trouble shoot this?😊

I've just downloaded the latest version to understand the issue and it seems there are only 3 female avatars now. I will check with CLO, but likely they have only made these 3 avatars compatible with all the new functions. The folder layout is also different, they don't each have their own folders anymore, but within some of the folders you will find subfolders with their names on it. Like for texture, you will find each different avatar's texture. Hope this helps!

Thank you for this video! May I ask if you have experience keeping the underbust measurement the same, keeping the back measurement the same, but then successfully making the bust cup and bust depth bigger? So, the circumference is indeed larger, but the underbust and back remain the same. I really appreciate it.

Up near the top of the chart, near height, there is a dropdown menu that is bust or underbust. You want to select underbust here, and then change the bust down below. That will keep the underbust consistent. BUT it is sooo challenging to do this in CLO. The avatar editor is really not the best with a full bust. It never seems to want to add only to the cup, but distributes it around the whole body and also I think might adjust the underbust if the difference is too big. If you're in need of an avatar with a really full bust, I'd recommend an Alvanon form or making a Daz avatar with a full bust shape and then bringing it into CLO and adjusting the measurements to what you want and the bust shape from Daz will remain a bit better than the CLO defaults.

Right click on the shoes in 3D and "delete hair/shoes" or "delete accessory" depending on which version of CLO you're using

Hey! Thank you for creating such content! I am just starting out with CLO3D to support my sewing hobby. I have a large bust,thighs, long torso, etc and my ultimate goal with CLO3D is to make my own avatar where I could check the fit of the patterns and adjust them accordingly. Because fitting is the most time consuming in real life. But after playing around a bit with the avatar sizing in clo3d I see that there are limitations. Do you know if there is a possibility to scan the body and then import it to clo3d for a very precise sizing? Thank you! :) Ieva from Riga, Latvia

Yes! I have a colleague who had great results with 3dlook.ai but there are lots of body scanning technologies, so if you found something else, any .obj file can be brought into CLO and used. Which is a universal 3D object file☺️ Let me know how you go!

The armhole measurements are incorrect for a lot of US ASTM avatar sizes in CLO3D. I noticed that it is not possible to edit the armhole measurement. Do you have any suggestions on how to create a custom size file some other way than using the avatar editor?
@ides.studio
@ides.studio Год назад
Hmm, so some ways are body scanning or creating a DAZ avatar and bringing those into CLO. That can get you the body shape you want and then you can convert them to CLO avatars so that you can make minor tweaks in the editor. The armscye might always be a bit off in 3D bc they're trying to avoid collision issues in the armpit, so I think I'd rely on the bicep and the garment specs for armhole drop there. There's always like this weird carved out space in the armpit for that reason. Hope that helps!
