Very helpful--thanks. Only difference with my wife's 2018 340i is that you have to press the wiper stalk DOWN and hold instead of up to get the wipers to sweep into the service position.
Agree with another comment. Press on the wiper stalk on the right hand side. Also, (maybe specific to my model of wagon f30), you press the lever down (not up as stated in the video). Also might be good to note that when turning the ignition on and off you don't depress the break so as to prevent the car from starting.
Well he did just turn the ignition on & off he didnt Mention to turn on the "ENGINE" on & off ...but i know where you're coming from, Especially new BMW owners (Noobies) who dont know much about BMW's or cars in general i guees it needs to be noted 🤷♂️
At the start of the video, it was stated you lift the indicator (turn) lever up. It’s NOT the indicator but the WIPER lever you need to operate. Worth noting that the lever should be pressed DOWN and not UP too (not sure if this is specific to UK/European spec vehicles) but it threw me for a while until I tried pressing up AND down!
Thanks Bryan, I’ve always wondered how it’s done and was afraid to change windshield wipers on my own. I didn’t know how easy it is. Great video, a lot of new BMW owners will look for that.
Fantastic and helpful. The only thing I would add is when placing the wipers in the change position, spray the windshield down first with Invisible Glass or something similar, to avoid running the wipers on the dry windshield. This avoids marring the glass in any way. Do the same before returning them back to the down position.
Brian, and Kies folks, thank you for sparing me an extra bad day of trying to install the replacement windshield wiper blades on my f30. With your attention to the BMW ownership detail, you make owning a BMW a much user friendly and pleasant experience. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man I just learn how to do mine I didn’t have to go to the dealer to get it done I just bought the same one u using on the video and pull off my phone go to RU-vid and start watching your video on the dealer lot and I did it myself thank you 😊
Thanks for posting this video! It's been a few years since I last changed my wipers and can never remember how to raise the the arms. And be careful with the spring loaded arms once you remove the blade like he said - I learned that the hard way on my E92 🙁
Hey Keis -- In 2017 the F30 came with a "regular" turn signal, that didn't return to neutral, when active. Do you know if there's a way to put that in 2012 - 2016 F30s? Could be a video idea!!
2018 BMW 340i Auto wipers. I had to press DOWN on wiper control stalk towards the "mist 1x" toggle and hold to get wipers to service position. Pushing up did nothing with vehicle off.
Bryan, this was very helpful, thank you. Even the Bentley manual for the F30 makes no mention of the wiper stalk trick to park the wipers in the vertical direction.
Extra info for 2017 340i When you pull up on the wiper arm, it stops as normal, then pull up just a little bit more and it will pass a detent an go a bit farther. Hit that spot and they instantly cycle up and stop.
Hello Brian, what do you know about the f30 335is catching fire. I m really concerned about this and thinking of selling my f30, it is really scary to think that my car can catch fire and especially that it is parke in my garage under my house. I know there is a recall and it applies to older bmw. My car is 2013 335is. I would very much apreciate your opinion on this topic. Thank you !
Can someone help me? As seen in the video brian's windshield wiper stalk has the automatic button and light whereas on my f30 320d 2013 i have a rain sensor built on the windshield but i have a wiper stalk on which the automatic mode button only serves for intermittent wiping and the wheel is to set the speed of wiping (no green light). Is there a possibility of coding automatic wiping and do i have to change the stalk? Thanks.
Hey Brian I have a 2015 335i with around 37,000 miles on it and it looks like the windshield has been sand blasted. Are F30 windshields extremely fragile? Did this happen to yours?
It's not the turn signal lever that you press up. It's the windshield wiper lever (or stalk, NOT stock as in your description) to the right of the steering wheel. The turn signal lever is on the left.
I have tried up and down and neither work. 2018 435d. With the ignition off, the wipers don't move at all. If the ignition is on the wipers move but don't stop. Maybe it's a timing thing? Anybody got any ideas?
Hey Brian...what if you do this trick and your wipers still don’t stay in the vertical position? Mine just keep wiping back and forth like normal. I literally followed this video step by step and it’s not stopping in the up position. I have a 2014 328i N20 model. Is there something I’m missing or could it be a coding issue?
I wonder who decided this was better way to do this than adding additional line in the car setup menu: 'wipers service position'. Just like Audi did in MMI. Same with the passenger mirror changing its position while in reverse. Why in the hell can't this be turn on/off from iDrive? Once again, Audi did it in MMI and you don't have to Google it.
Tbh when I was 5 years old my moms trucks taillights got stolen from our apartment complex overnight. So it may seem like a over engineered wiper set up, but no one can come at night and easily step your wiper blades. 🤷🏻♂️ i who knows what people need and will try to steal.
