In addition to the crow's foot, they make special sensor wrenches that are notched to allow the wires through. I got one for my 02 sensor and it looks like it would work on this thing too

I saw underneath this will work for a 2008 saab 97x 4.2 also. This morning when i left for work my temp gauge wasnt working at all, it stays at cold so i suspect this is the issue as the fan still kicks on and it didnt over heat. So would this be the fix to get my temp fauge working again? All fuses are good it just wont move off cold, i still have good heat also.

I think I'm starting to regret buying this 2008 trailblazer. I haven't owned it for 2 weeks and the steering wheel angle sensor went out. That was $480.... Now my "check gauge" light is on, and the temp guage is at zero.... But I do have heat. This looks like a real easy fix .....SMH. BUT! I live in Detroit and some piece of shit stole my Tahoe with the 5.3, so I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

If you pull the alternator off you will have easy access to the coolant temperature sensor and the thermostat. I used a 19mm open end wrench to take out the old and put in the new coolant sensor.

Have 2008 trailblazer Lt, followed all the steps and low and behold the sensor is not there. So the video was not useful for the sensor so changed the thermostat instead which is there, and that cured the engine light problem, so didn't change the sensor which is actually on the other side of the engine.Good video though.

@@E4EonEbay Hi there, yes it does have the Vortec 4.2 engine. You can see where it should be but it is now solid. I bought both the sensor and the thermostat because if I was going to take out the alternator then was going to do both at same time. Didn't have to take battery out but putting the third screw at the underside of the alternator was very difficult because of a hose that stopped the wrench going over its head. I hardly do any work on cars and followed your video and it was perfect. I believe the sensor is on the passenger side of the engine and somebody else commented that it still difficult to get to.Thanks.

I ask because my truck is over heating just a lil bit, it goes up 2 notches/lines from 210 on the temperature gauge but I have no check engine light on so I’m wondering could this sensor be the cause.

Coolant Sensor was causing overheating and flooding of my engine, so yes. Mine idled high and its all good now.
@LetricShave
@LetricShave 2 года назад
Absolutely! Have you ever noticed the fast idle when you first start up your vehicle and the coolant temperature is the same temperature as the ambient outside air temperature? If you live in a cold climate, this could go on for several minutes. The PCM will increase the engine idle according to the coolant temperature sending unit and quite possibly the intake air temperature sensor as well. So if your coolant temperature sensor is bad and sending a low temperature reading to the PCM, it could cause a higher than normal engine idle. But don’t just focus on that, you also have an idle air control valve that could be causing a high idle.
