Hey man just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to make this video. My son's truck needed this repair and I was low on funds and time. The video was so perfect I not only handled the repair but was able to get out of the Texas heat(112 heat index yesterday) faster. Thank you brother, I want you to know this 20 min thing you did 4 years ago is still helping people tremendously. Thank you for sharing the knowledge and may God bless you sir.

You don't have to tighten the big fan nut. It will self-tighten when the engine starts. It won't unscrew or fall off when you shut the engine off. It'll be just fine.
@jayrenner1053

Take an air chisel to the nut end for a whack or two. It will definitely never move. Taking it off, this helps too.

@E4EonEbay

If the electric fan clutch fails it can cause water pump failure, so due to the labor involved and the mileage on the vehicle I felt it best to simply change both while I was right there. Thanks for watching and commenting!

DO NOT Torque Your Water Pump To 89 FT LBS!!!! 89 IN LBS
@henrymichael5503
@henrymichael5503 5 лет назад
there's no need to cut the shroud, pull up the driver side first so the fan clutch assembly clears the pulley then tilt the shroud towards the engine, you'll have to wiggle and finesse a little until the shroud is clear of the power steering lines.

Great video. Excellent positioning and descriptions. Awesome tool description too. I caught the 10mm water pump bolt tightening mistake but that was the only one. I usually dont need a torque wrench anyways. 89 ft ponds is way too much. haha Id say 25 ft pounds is good. Thank you my good man.

I didn’t have that cutting tool you have. Instead , I drilled a hole on each side of the cover (upper radiator) then took for tin snips and cut. Great video . Thanks !!!

Hey @Steve Young thanks for all your Trailblazer videos. I have an 02 TB that I need to change water pump and fan clutch on. How's the Dorman working out for you? I have read a few reviews that the fan runs on high speed all the time. Stating that I should go OEM. Problem is OEM costs an arm and a leg. I don't trust the stuff on EBAY to get one. The OEM part on Rock AUto says it comes with sensor. What stinkn sensor is that?

Great video - one small correction, in the video you said do the final torque of water pump bolts to 89 ft/ pounds and it should be 89 inch/ pounds. Pretty sure 89 ft/pounds would strip the bolt and then you have a nightmare situation.

Do you have access to a torch? Even a propane one just to heat up the pulley a little and give it a rap with a hammer? Otherwise I would spray pb blaster and hit it. Not like we are worried at this point about hurting the pump itself as it's junk and is getting replaced. Those are my thoughts. Thanks for watching!

PS. if you get you're tools from O'Rielly's, they usually only have a foot pound Torque wrench. Conversions: 35 inch pounds is ~ 2.92 ft pounds. 89 inch pounds is ~18 ft pounds. However, as you are tightening it... if it feels off to you stop early.

@Steve Young GREAT REFERENCE! I did this job yesterday and the Thermostat and ECT Sensor and this helped a lot! My tip to all is: if everything goes smooth except getting those damn Trans cooling lines back into their slots- you can take a Dremel tool and trim them down and it will fall into place like butter PLUS the cooling lines will still sit where they belong..they just wont "snap" into place but will have support. Once again EXCELLENT reference for doing this job correctly! Also, I believe the giant clutch nut wrench is size 1 7/16(Item #25193) ordered from Ace hardware.

Not sure why my reply didn't take the 1st time, but here goes again, if there is enough sticking out when you get the rest of the bolts out and the pump out of the way you may be able to get on the part thats sticking out with some vice grips. Perhaps applying some heat before attempting to turn it out with the vice grips may help. You don't want to end up snapping it off flush as this will result in needing to drill it out and most likely having to re tap the hole. Perhaps someone may chime in with an alternate method.
