A step-by-step summary of what to do to flush the coolant system in the Toyota MR2 Mk1. This is a long process and must be done thoroughly to ensure that the old coolant is completely removed.
What about doing multiple drain and fills of the radiator un till the coolant looks new? Every drain and fill would improve the percentage of new coolant in the system and you wouldn't have to mess with anything else.
you need to properly fill and bleed the system to make sure there is no air. I will make a video on this once I refill with coolant, right now I just have water in the system
My friend I’ve been fushing the coolant system of my mr2 for 4 days because I swapped the engine. There are no bubbles in the system anymore, after I turn the vehicle on, after a few minutes it overheats. The thermostat is out. I don’t know what to do. It’s frustrating?
The AW11 has such a PITA coolant system. Thanks for the video, wish I had it the first time I drained the system. I found it much more difficult to fill and bleed the system though.
Hi Gray, useful vid, many thanks. Would be good to see one of bleeding the system also as most people will need to do that right after this step. Your method may not flush the cabin heater coolant pipework, so I'm trying to figure out how to attack that. I'm working on an idea to force water pressure into one of the pipes at the thermostat as the entry point - it should then circulate the heater pipework and exit again at another unhooked pipe close to the thermostat. Hopefully that'll get it. Those drain hoses you find in the frunk are actually for the bleed process rather than the drain process - some mk1's will come with short hoses on the drain points for this purpose. Keep the good vids coming!
