Just done this job. Great tip to secure the bottom of the strut via the bottom ball joint through a different bolt hole in the lower arm after removing the driveshaft. Holds the whole thing steady and makes removal of the three securing bolts so much easier. Thank you.

I like how you undo the axle nut with 1 hand. When others brake dozens of breaker bars

I'm not sure why these mk5 front wheel bearing videos have people removing balljoints and things. I've done several and never removed anything other than the axle nut, wheel and caliper carrier bolts. I just did our rusted solid winter rat in just over an hour, including the PROPER torque sequence for the axle nut. Did it on a city street on a jack stand. There is plenty of room to remove the (4) bearing bolts with the suspension relaxed, by simply turning the stearing wheel. TIPS: -Make sure the heads of the triple square bearing bolts are blown out with compressed air, tap them in with a hamer to insure they're fully seated. -Use the USA made Lislie triple square bits. (9pc. set) -If you want to make it real, real easy, use a simple propane torch on the old bearing itself on the outside where the bolts thread in. 60sec each. -If rust is an issue, use a simple old school slide hamer to pull the hub. They are not pressed in, come right out in one pull. (how the hell do these guys not have one?) $5 at every other garage sale.. Just take off the axle bolt. Take off the wheel. Take off the caliper carrier. Take out the bearing.

the torque is different depending on the hub bolt used, right? can someone tell the torque for the hub bolt for the 27mm HEX and the 24 XZN (triple square) ??

Thank you for your request. Unfortunately, it is not possible to answer your question, you can probably find this information in the technical documentation for repairing of your car. Best Regards, Autodoc team.

With ribbing 70 Nm + 90° / Without ribbing 200 Nm + 180°. Doesn't matter if hex or XZN, it's ribbing or no ribbing which makes difference. Always new bolt.

The Haynes manual state that the car must not be standing on its wheels when torquing the driveshaft bolt, or the wheel bearing will be damaged. What do you guys think about this?

@@MilosVi get someone to sit in the car whilst pressing the brakes. Or jam a screw driver between the vents in the disk brake if you have no friends.
