Thank you Auto doc I just finished changing mine. I would like to point out to people who are wanting to replace theirs to have a 1/2 Torx socket set ready as most wheel bearing come with those rather than 18mm socket in this video.

Hitting the threaded end of the driveshaft with a steel hammer is a good way of damaging the thread. Best to leave the old nut at the end of the shaft to protect the thread or use a soft headed hammer.
@autodocuk

You are absolutey right. A plastic hammer or a mediator between the nut anf the steel hammer. Best regards, Autodoc team.

You beat me to it lol That was the first thing I noticed. You’re absolutely right! Leave the nut on at the end of the shaft and let the nut take the beating instead of the driveshaft threads. I’ve seen many of them get damaged because of this little mistake.

These videos are really misleading and dangerous, I'm shocked they haven't altered their procedure. No torque wrenches, parts jammed back in over rust and grit, a hammer used on the bare threads of the driveshaft (!!). Sloppy stuff and will get people into trouble. Hopefully no one is killed because they didn't tighten something up properly.
@hmarold
@hmarold 6 лет назад
autodoc.co.uk So show the use of a torque wrench! And a wire brush wouldn't kill you either. You have a responsibility to show best practice, not short cuts.

Watched this video and thought, hey, I can do this. Two taps on the drive shaft and came lose. No chance. Hit the life out of mine (with nut on), tried a bar across with g clamps. Would not budge. Absolute nightmare. Gave up in the end. Crucial tool missing in this video. Wheel bearing hub removal tool. Should have shown this on video, then, not having one myself, I wouldn't have started the job. The rest helped though.

In reality no bolt comes off and you have to heat them or extract them. Also tge smaller one that holds the brake disc always breaks un half an must be extracted. And the wheel hub will never go off unless heated and hut hard with tge hammer

Handbrake on, 1st gear, wheel chock at the front, centre cap off (I use large piece of sticky butyl), deep socket with breaker bar+jack handle (I have full sized jack with hollow handle of over 1m long). Removed CV nut with that method no problem. Just be careful not to stretch your back muscles :)

Fatening axle nut by pFatening axle nut by pneumatic wrench is very bad idea, same as hammering directy into axle. To disassembly axle, fasteing nut should be screwd few spins uside dow into axle then you can use hammer. Simple but this is the principle of mechanics. Never fasten screw and nuts by pneumatic wrench Never use hammer directy into threaded axle

This guy is not a professional technician, he always uses an air driven nut driver when he assembles parts that usually need to be torqued. Sometimes it gets too loose and sometimes too tight. You could at least say that these nuts should be tightened with a certain torque.

And the bearing falls out... 😂😂 I replace these a lot and never has the bearing ever come out easily. If you are showing the public tips on removing these, at least keep it real. and show them the reality of how difficult this can be. People tackle this type of repair not knowing what's ahead because of videos like this one.
