A little tip when changing oil. Your tightening your oil filter to tight. Put a little oil on your finger and smear it on the oil filter gasket. This will help when removing it. Make it hand tight and a 1/4 turn more.
I totally appreciate this video. It's been a while since I changed my tractor oil and couldn't get it going. I've had mine 12 years and it still works great. Thank you so much!
Always put fresh oil on the filter seal and only hand tight the filter then one quarter turn DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN ! If you do it this way no leak and easy to take off
My only simple question for this engine is…….. what is the new oil capacity with new oil filter?………… I just need one simple answer please………. And thank you in advance!
My mower is a large garden tractor, maybe 12 years old...the oil drain plug is installed BEHIND the steel frame....almost impossible to get conventional tools in there...every year I dread the nightmare oil change. I end up unthreading the entire brass plug assembly from the block to let the oil seep out....
This man could have made this in five minutes if he had not been so concerned about getting dirty. He should watch some You Tubes to see how to do. I think you should put oil around gasket of oil filter before you install. Might come off easier, less grunting and groaning needed. But what do I know-I am a girl!
Now that you got the old oil out why don't you just take that stupid thing they put in there if your handy with a wrench? put a regular 1/2 " pipe in it to save the mess all ways a better way. with elbow and plug facing down. this is a cleaner way, fix it right and the filter you can buy at walmart $4. and the filter only hand tight it has a rubber seal ever try using AMSOIL 100% synthetic? change once a year,go to the AMSOIL.com site been using that for 7 years now,and in my truck
Now I know not to trust everyone doing a demo on RU-vid………. No, don’t use a crumpled store plastic bag to check the oil level! Use a clean paper towel or similar absorbent paper material 2nd, don’t use the oil filter wrench to tighten the new oil filter! I just did an oil change on my same craftsman lawn tractor and it specifically said on the filter - to only hand tighten it. And another thing……. Put a drop of clean oil on the new filter and spread it around the gasket with your clean finger, come on, even my grandmother 😅knows that!!! I just have to ask………. Whats sa matta fa you!!! .
I understand the cleanliness aspect, I am just as careful. However that this guy states he changes oil twice a year and that his oil drain valve was so loose seems odd to say the least.
No, you hand tightened then use the wrench to go quarter turn further. Per manufacture specs. Not a bad idea to oil the gasket, but NEVER had one leak that I didn't
@@adameater oh well you wouldn’t work on my car or anyone, I never use a wrench bad information you have . no need to use a wrench at all on any filter , reason due to over tightening and damage to rubber seal and or o rings , Filters are meant to be hand tightened and a lot states it on filter using a wrench is not needed , I do hundreds of oil changes from gas to diesel never an issue . If it works for you oh well but it’s not needed.
