2007 Porsche Cayman: AC and Fan Button (i.e., climate control) DIY replacement
This should work for 2005 to 2012 applications and 996/987/986/997 models.
Don’t pay the dealer $1,100+ for this service. They will make you purchase the whole unit for $799 plus installation. The replacement part is $169 shipped from the UK, which isn’t cheap but a much better deal. I purchased mine from climarepair.com and anyone with basic mechanic skills can complete this project.
**9/29/2023** The buttons are now only $30 on Amazon. Buy them below.
Tools needed: estimated time is 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete or sooner.
• T6 bit
• T20 bit
• T30 bit
• Small screw driver
• 1/4 ratchet or battery powered ratchet
• Tweezers
• Patience

"now we need a set of tweezers.. well, not a set, just a pair of tweezers" My man even corrects himself so he is technically correct with the language. Awesome video!! now do headliner replacement (this car is such a pain in the ass sometimes)

Great video. I have one added observation: If you have a Bose unit in the passenger footwell, you first need to 1) remove the small vent louver (via snaps), 2) remove the larger vent (T-20), and the large carpeted cover (T-30) which slides back towards the rear of the car. This will allow clear access to the side panel screws. This job took me about 90 minutes working carefully on a 2006 987.1 S, and yes the button removal requires some patience.

As an aside, I would recommend pulling the Stab Module that has the Spoiler and PSM switches while you are there. Look for corrosion ! Spoiler switches gotta be really clean. Evidently, the fan has a tendency to pull in moisture- at least according to a video I saw

Thanks I have liked and subscribed. It was for my 911 (997 gen 1). I found the whole thing very easy thanks to your video which I had on my laptop to refer to throughout the repair. The only confusing part was when the light diffuser fell off the back of the LED screen as it was being removed and I couldn’t quite work out where to put it back. Trial and error solved that! The car is in mint condition other than the temp and fan buttons which looks great now they are fixed !👍🏼 thanks again

Thanks for the video. I bought my replacement switches from Clima Repair last Fall. ( I think they are in Spain). Cost me over $100. Then I went and lost them during the winter. :( Luckily they are on Amazon and all over eBay now for $50-60. Still not cheap but better than $100 and change.

I think there is a company in the UK called “Climate Repair” that sells buttons and another in Spain called “Clima Repair”. Both are pretty pricy. Wish I could compare the new cheaper ones to the older expensive ones but I really don’t remember what they were like. I’ll probably find them later in the summer after I install the new ones, LOL. That’ll teach me to buy stuff in advance.

I got thru to replacing the switches part. However, during the dismantling, the screen part fell apart and I don't know how to reassemble the screen. I've only gotten one of the buttons to work. ECO. Display dim lighted up and no content displayed. There's still a problem with contact with motherboard/circuit board. I'll have to go to dealer to have them reassemble the climate control unit. Not as easy as it looks.

Instead of taking anything apart, why not just carefully drill out and/or break/remove the old buttons, which you don't need anyway, and then install the new buttons? The new buttons just slot into the holes. No disassembly would be required. @@512TXSDIY
