Great video. Very well detailed. My only concern is when the brake caliper (assembly) is hanging on it's hose. Mercedes manuals tells to "NEVER let your calipers hanging on it's hoses. Hoses can be damaged". Other than that it is a great video.
@em4703
@em4703 3 месяца назад
Its true, but at the same time, if hanging the caliper by it damages it, it was only a matter of time until that hose cracked. The rubber was most likely already dry rotted. That being said I always manually check the rubber but still use a hook to hang the caliper when working on my car.

With SBC, before removing brakes, when ignition is off, remove the SBC unit connector in the engine bay and after repair, put it back and pump the brake during first start to help the SBC to make contact with pads. No errors this way. If sliding pins/bolts won't open, don't break the head. Open the 18 mm bolts, separate the sliding part and take the pins out in a vice with aluminiun etc. jaws, clean the pins in a drill with fine sand paper and clean the threads with wire brush.

I changed the rear discs and brake pads now pads are not releasing to the end they touch the discs any idea how to fix this without removing them again??
@ytcomments8524
@ytcomments8524 4 месяца назад
@@marioloca6067 Sounds like the cylinders are stuck. Try pushing them all the way in with the correct tool and assemble brakes again. This is how you may release the cylinders. There may be rust inside, under the rubber seals.

@@ytcomments8524 mechanic didnt disable SBC unit before changing the pads are touching the discs little bit just enough to get them worn if i disconnect SBC and connect again will this fix the problem?
@ytcomments8524
@ytcomments8524 4 месяца назад
@@marioloca6067 Disable SBC, push the pistons all the way in, assemble brakes and turn ignition ON/OFF many times and pump brake pedal. This is how you get the SBC to push the pads to correct distance from the disc.

This was an incredible video. Does this also apply to the front brakes and rotors as well?

Great video, very simplistic approach!! But I have the same question concerning the SBC, how do you disable the SBC on this W11? and will the Brake display go away after the replacement or do you have to reset it manually?
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 5 лет назад
Thank you for the feedback! When replacing sensors and other items in which errors may occur, it is advisable to have all the equipment in order to reset them.Either disconnect the clamps on the battery while replacement is in progress and after replacing to connect them back, it generally avoids errors. Best regards, Autodoc.

Doesn't this car has sbc brake system? There is no mention of disabling the system to do this job. Please explain. Thanks.

Thank you for the feedback! If there is an SBC system in the car, the brake servicing work should be carried out only at the Mercedes service station, it is too complex and responsible. Best Regards, Autodoc

My plan is to just disable the negative pole on the battery, since i don’t have a diagnostic tool to disable the SBC system.
@timopekkanen

Removing the battery terminal in the trunk is not enough, because there is a backup battery under the hood. And you have to test the system after replacement with the tester.

This video is misinformation and risk of injury . You have to disable first the SBC pump , then work on the brakes . Mercedes and every mechanic advises to do so

Good . Pretty sure you just guesstimate on the torque on each bolts. As long as it’s tight and good to go..

Thank you for your comment! Unfortunately, in this video, we missed the values of torque, one in the new video we have already corrected this nuance and now we must use a torque wrench in compliance with all values of torque according to the recommendations of the manufacturers. Yes if this car has SBC then it is very important for safety to disable the system first. Very good video though,thanks.

disconnect the batteries and open the bleeder valve while pushing the caliper piston in. This way you are not applying pressure on the SBC. Just keep in mind to bleed the system a bit, with a positive pressure device.

Really.? You applied copper anti-seize material from a can that sprays its contents within a certain area and pattern over the hub plate with holes and that area of spray will contaminate the shoes within the disc hub and have a braking issue when parking/emergency brakes are applied... People, if you insist on using this copper grease/anti-seize stuff apply it by hand and sparingly..

Absolute BS. First, the rotor will not come off as easily as shown. A typical E350 will be doing this around 75,000 to 100,000 miles and there will be a significant amount of rust on the inside of the rotor. You will need to fight the rotor off and will probably break the brake shoe retaining springs in the process. MB didn't bother to put an access hole in the splash shield to access the adjuster so good luck. Also, what is the stuff in the spray can that is getting all over the emergency brake shoes?

Thank you for your comment! Unfortunately, the complexity of replacement on each machine is individual. It all depends on the technical condition of the parts. If sliding pins bolts won't open, open them later in a vice with softer jaws. Just open the 18 mm bolts and separate the sliding part of the caliper.
