In this video I show you how to change the rear drum brakes on a Toyota Camry car. The Toyota Camry in this video is a 2005 model.
Changing drum brakes in a car is pretty easy, and this video shows you how to change drum brakes on your car. Many modern cars have drum brakes in the back, and you have to change the drum brake shoes when they wear out. Play this video to see me change the rear brake pads on a Toyota Camry car.
Here are the steps.
1: First, you jack up the car, then remove the wheels.
2: Remove the brake drums.
3: carefully remove the brake shoes and disconnect the springs that hold them together.
4: Disconnect the parking brake cable.
5. Connect the parking brake cable to the new brake shoes.
6: Connect the springs to the brake shoes.
7: Reinstall the spring pins that hold the brake shoes in place.
8: Put the brake drum over the brake shoes.
9: Put the rear wheel on the Toyota Camry.
Here's where to get a repair manual for a Toyota Camry:
2007-2015:
amzn.to/32IZVbf
2002-2006
amzn.to/2UtNHPi
1997-2001
amzn.to/32HtCtm
If you follow the steps in this how to video, you will be able to easily change the brake pads on the back wheels of your Toyota Camry car.

Just wanted to point one error. Great video. Its the adjuster comment you made, some folks might incorrectly install this. Looking at 1:28 the adjuster is removed with the long side on the top plate. Fast forward to 4:42 you said long side of adjuster goes to the rear. Fast forward to 5:04 you placed the long adjuster to the top plate but did not mention the error made at 4:42.

At 4:42 he said the long end goes to the rear and this is the correct way to install it. Short leg should be in the front.

I hate doing drums.. but never had an all disc car. I like the fact that you didn't use/talkabout getting fancy tools... not needed!

They are awful. Also there are a lot more parts, and they are heavier and harder to install than disc brakes. It makes me wonder why manufacturers still make them. It would be cheaper for them just to go all disc.

@@hoohoohoblin my trick ended up being to break the pins of the springs with a crow bar, from the back, so I could pull the drum off. Insides were bad. I had a whole new kit, including Cylinders so I didn't care to break anything tho.

Because you have to adjust the brake pads out. Watch this video pads should drag to 1 1/2 turns when you spin drum. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0KoronMSp68.html

Wish I'd have paid better attention to the order in which you reinstalled all the springs and parts. I put the big top spring on before installing the little side springs and pins and wound up destroying my wheel cylinder. Got brake fluid all over my new pads.

I have 2007 and it has brake shoes and rotors and brake pads. Double work. Many other cars have one or the other.

My rear brake is U-BS mode, I couldn’t stop my vehicle very well for a long time, I changed all the pads and still have no use, but after watched this video I am sure I should replace the pads in my drum and that will be helpful ! Thanks for your sharing ~

I know. It looks really simple, but when you actually try to do it it is pretty frustrating.

Thanks for sharing the instructions. I did this but I am now getting some clunking noise from the drums when braking. What could be the cause of that ? I am thinking the shoes might not be seated in the center which caused a thump per turn.

This is a California car from the valley, so it never rains, and it’s far from the ocean, so it never rusts either.

How do you go about adjust the E-Brake, ? I know sometimes after all is said n done, the e-brake would be very loose and get no traction when pulling it upwards.. Thanks 🙏

Can you recommend a set of brake shoes for a 2000 Camry CE? Looking for durable perhaps ceramic shoes. I used Akebono for the front (pads) but they don't seem to make shoes.
@MJorgy5
@MJorgy5 Год назад
I'd recommend finding a ceramic shoe. I had put organic material shoes in my first gen Tundra and they howled loud enough to wake entire neighborhoods. Put in ceramics and they only squeeked when wet, otherwise completely silent.

Disc brakes are a lot easier than drums for sure. But having no vehicle at all means no maintenance at all. I guess you could rent a truck if you ever need one.

I'm getting my grandfathers 2005 camry and I was thinking of changing the drums to disk. Do you think it's worthwhile? To be honest I only want to so when I get rims, you can't see drums
@hoohoohoblin

I don’t think it would make much of a performance difference. It would probably be really hard to do as well.

Drum brakes can last 100k miles and make for a better parking brake.
