This video will show you how to change the spark plugs and spark plug wires in a 2006-2010 Ford Explorer with a 4.0 Engine.

Great video guys. I like how you went though the removal of the alternator. It would have been easier to just gloss over that step, but in a how-to video it is important to show all work on the steps involved. Again, great job.

That was an awesome video. Sucks you have to move the alternator, but is what it is. Planning on doing my plugs and wires on my 2010 Explorer soon.

Great video, a big help! I did not take off the bracket on the passenger side, you can easily slip the plug wires through there one by one. The rest is right on!

I would have struggled with the passenger side installation had you guys not included the Alternator removal and the importance of putting the spark plug wires back in the clips to protect them from the engine heat. !!!! Wasn't sure if removing the alternator was necessary. Now, I see it's the best way to go. Ford takes a 10 minute job and turns it into 45 ti force you to be your best 😂

If they are the regular cheaper spark plugs you should check the gap. If they are the iridium spark plugs with that pointed element they come pre-gapped and you can just use them out of the box. That fine point on the iridium plugs is very easy to break if you try to gap them. Hope this helps you out.

Do these methods apply to the 4.6 V8 models as well, and will the spark plugs from a 4.0 model work inside a V8 model?

You should be able to apply some of the basic automotive steps that were taken in this video and apply them to your application. You may want to check that particular model at the parts store to see what they recommend. I would just go with a simple Autolight spark plug, you don't need anything too crazy.

Do you recommend changing the wires every time you change the plugs?

You may not need to replace the spark plug wires every time you change the spark plugs. While changing the plugs inspect the wires for damage and wear. If you are experiencing a hesitation or a skip upon acceleration it may not be a bad idea to replace the spark plug wires while you are in there.
