Great video guys. I like how you went though the removal of the alternator. It would have been easier to just gloss over that step, but in a how-to video it is important to show all work on the steps involved. Again, great job.

Thank you so much for this. This is by far the best video for changing spark plugs on an early 2000s ford explorer. All the other videos I've watched for this sucked and were unhelpful.

That was an awesome video. Sucks you have to move the alternator, but is what it is. Planning on doing my plugs and wires on my 2010 Explorer soon.

Thanks for making it easy and confirming that I needed to pull the alternator and air intake off. I really appreciate how you guys listed what sizes of sockets I’d need. It really made the job a lot easier. Still a hassle but not too bad

Great video, a big help! I did not take off the bracket on the passenger side, you can easily slip the plug wires through there one by one. The rest is right on!

Thanks guys, big help...and the comment below mine is a awesome observation about the " How to video" Format being done in the correct way. I would have struggled with the passenger side installation had you guys not included the Alternator removal and the importance of putting the spark plug wires back in the clips to protect them from the engine heat. !!!! Again thank you for your help 🙏

Grat video guys, thanks. Before embarking on changing the spark plugs I found your video and helped me a lot as to the process and mostly with the sizing of the bolts cause I do have a lot of difficulties guessing the size of the bolt and the socket. Thanks!!

Wasn't sure if removing the alternator was necessary. Now, I see it's the best way to go. Ford takes a 10 minute job and turns it into 45 ti force you to be your best 😂

On a 2006-2010 Explorer with the 4.0 V6 the spark plug gap should be .054

Hi there I enjoyed the video and wonder if I need to gap the spark plugs even if i got them from Motorcraft
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 3 года назад
If they are the regular cheaper spark plugs you should check the gap. If they are the iridium spark plugs with that pointed element they come pre-gapped and you can just use them out of the box. That fine point on the iridium plugs is very easy to break if you try to gap them. Hope this helps you out.

Do these methods apply to the 4.6 V8 models as well, and will the spark plugs from a 4.0 model work inside a V8 model?
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 2 года назад
You should be able to apply some of the basic automotive steps that were taken in this video and apply them to your application. You may want to check that particular model at the parts store to see what they recommend. I would just go with a simple Autolight spark plug, you don't need anything too crazy.

Go through wheel well and avoid removing engine parts.

Do you recommend changing the wires every time you change the plugs?
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 2 года назад
You may not need to replace the spark plug wires every time you change the spark plugs. While changing the plugs inspect the wires for damage and wear. If you are experiencing a hesitation or a skip upon acceleration it may not be a bad idea to replace the spark plug wires while you are in there.

What we’re the tools you used to remove the spark plugs? And the tool you used to move the alternator?
@HomeOwnerRepair

I used a 5/8 spark plug socket. The alternator bracket bolts are 13MM. Hope this helps you out.

What if the spark plug very hard to get out? Should I still use a 3/8 ratchet?
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 3 года назад
If it fits snuggly on there you should be fine. Just be careful not to round off the spark plug.
