I was surprised when I got into this and found I needed to remove the Alternator to route the new spark plug wires. Fortunately it is very easy to remove the alternator and requires very few tools.
3/8 Ratchet, 13mm socket, 1/4 ratchet, 10mm socket, screwdriver, silicone grease, and anti-seize.
The clips on the wires are fragile, be careful during removal. Nothing needs to be forced. At 256K miles everything came off very easily.

This video is exactly what I needed. I just changed all 6 spark plugs and 3 driver side ignition wires easily without removing anything. Then spent the last hour trying to figure out the passenger side 3 ignition wires. I failed. Decided to take a break and regroup and stumbled upon your video. Even though my explorer is 2005 4.0 v6, it is identical process as yours. I will gather up my nerves now and attempt to remove alternator. Still not clear how to remove the belt but I will give it a try. Thanks for the great video.

The tension pully/spring has a square hole it it that the socket wrench fits into - use the leverage of the wrench to flex the pully spring (it's a rotation) enough to loosen the belt and slip it off the top pulley. There is no risk of doing that part wrong. Do remember how it was run before you take it off...sometimes it slips off the other pulleys and is then confusing to put back. I'm glad this was helpful, thanks for commenting!

Mission accomplished Thanks to your video. I successfully removed the fan belt from the tensioner. Needed a long pipe to use as an extension on the ratchet for extra leverage. Alternator removal was pretty easy. Successfully installed the new passenger side ignition wires. Put everything back. Thanks again for this video.

Just did plugs and wires on a 06 this afternoon. I also took the time to remove the alternator to keep it clean. I used NGK plugs and wires I got from RockAuto. Runs like a champ. Have you had your fuel pressure sensor go bad yet?? If you haven't get ready for fun. Mine just went and I had to pull the intake to change it.
@KrizAkoni
@KrizAkoni 5 лет назад
Thanks for commenting and I'm glad this was helpful. Eek, no, I have not had that go bad yet, but I did preemptively have the fuel pump changed. With 270K miles anything can go at any time. I needed to remove the intake on my Taurus to change the plugs and nearly did it on this vehicle when I had difficulty getting the EGR valve off. Thanks for the heads up!

Just replaced mine last month. Those manifold cover screws are brutal. I'm 6'2" and had to crawl inside the engine bay, maneuver blindly by the firewall, and use like three socket extensions to get them all out. Hoping the sensor lasts, because I'm not looking forward to doing that again.

Wish I had watched this BEFORE I started on changing plugs, plug wires, and ignition coil on my 2007 Explorer. Couldn't figure out how to get the wires out on the passenger side, now see the alternator removal is the only way. I assume the 1/2" line is the fuel line?
@KrizAkoni
@KrizAkoni 4 года назад
Definitely a routing chore...thanks for stopping by and commenting! Not sure which line you're talking about (time reference?).
@SlimSluggish

If you’re changing the coil, the firing order on the coil is not linear, as in cylinder 5 and 6 are swapped. You facing the engine the plugs plug into the coil as such. 123 654 Don’t swap them like I did, it gets very interesting when you do.
@KrizAkoni

That’s never fun when they get mixed up!

KrizAkoni if you want instant cam lope, just swap 5 and 6.

why does this part say "564"? www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/motorcraft/motorcraft-ignition-coil/mot0/dge446/v/a/29005/automotive-suv-2008-ford-explorer?q=dge-446&pos=0

@@toomanynarcissistshere2102 I think that was a typo on his part. It should be 564, as he said the 5/6 firing order is not linear.

Using this process is out possible and easier to pull spark plugs, especially that back sucker?

Sorry my ignorance I have a question do those wires have the spark plugs inside the wire... Because a didn't see any spark plugs replaced ..only wires
@KrizAkoni
@KrizAkoni 5 лет назад
The spark plugs are down in the engine block where they usually are. I did not change the plugs in this video (that was done previously and is very easy), I only changed the wires.

Alfredo Guaman dude that’s crazy my wife and I have a 2006 and I’ve been looking for a video with the same engine. It was a nightmare trying to see how could I get in there to change the wires on the passenger side. I have very little car experience and had been searching for weeks looking for a DIY. This is damn near the same set up and now I have the confidence to do it myself!!!!!!!! Thanks so much KrizAkoni!

@KrizAkoni
@KrizAkoni 5 лет назад
@FleetFeet1 - I do not. However, the plugs are easily accessible without the need to remove anything. Just follow the wires down to where the plugs are. Thanks for commenting! 🤓
@cristianvaldez6174
@cristianvaldez6174 4 года назад
Why did you replace them? What did the motor sound like because of it? Any explanation?
@KrizAkoni
@KrizAkoni 4 года назад
For the wires, they had 250K on them and never been changed. I had noticed on foggy days the engine missed a little bit (jerky surge on acceleration). New wires fixed that. The book recommends replacing the plugs every 90K miles. I had 150K on these plugs. It’s normal maintenance. If you don’t do it, at some point the engine will run rough and hesitate / miss.
