Thanks for sharing your experience! I have not had a fuel filter related issue on a personal vehicle since the 70’s, but it makes sense to replace it every twenty years or so.
True! Didn't actually have an issue either, just an easy item to do and without knowing the timeframe of the last one... I think the retailer's suggestion of once a year is ridiculous. Unless you live in a place with awful fuel.
A lifting trick I do it back up the ramps then lift the front in two lifts getting as high as my low jacks can take it then use my 4x4 tall jacks to get it up really high. Awesome video and that most like something I need to do to mine too so taking notes.
In one bmw forum, they cut open a fuel filter at 80k and it’s still in good shape. You really can replace it every 150k miles as long as your fuel system is maintained (good fuel and fuel system cleaning additive every now and then).
Mark i must say i was waiting for a few "ah craps" to come out! I could almost feel your strain. Doing mine in the spring as shes sleeping in the garage
You know, given your handy work in the kitchen, you could design a new "Beamer" coffee maker that uses a Z3 fuel filter. The BMW community just might jump at the chance to purchase such a unique unit. You could make the circuit of car shows around the nation and ZFest! A new plan for personal wealth!!!!
Thanks, it was a Christmas gift. It's on Etsy. Ships from the UK ($), runs a half size small (or maybe I'm running big). Mark, As always, an excellent video! I may be replacing my fuel filter. For a future video --- A related subject I am interested in is, I am wondering if there are any recommendations regarding using any fuel additives. Thanks.
Mark, Oops, in my comment a few minutes ago, I forgot to also mention my interest in oil additives for a 1997 BMW Z3 1.9., if any additives are recommended. Thanks, gain.
I have to admit, I don't use any additives. Doesn't mean you can't but I'd probably ask first what the problem is that an additve will solve? If you don't have issues, I might save the money. With that said, let me look into it a bit more for you.
Hi Mark. Great vid as ever. Is the filter positioning and frequency of replacement the same for us 6 cylinder owners? I suspect with my 21YO Zed it may be the original fuel filter. Time to Change!
Not sure- in my owner's manual the darn thing isn't even mentioned! I'd give yours a read and if it is like mine maybe look to the internet. Position wise I think it should be the same.
I have a 97 and 98 z3 1.9. I figured I'd change the cabin filter as I've been cleaning these cars up. At this point I don't think these cars have a cabin filter. Is that correct, no cabin filters?
Funny i was going to do a video on that.... then i found out there are none on the roadsters at least. One less thing on your list! Congrats on having two!
@@MomentofZed I am down to one now. Totalled the other 😓 I love these cars. I'd like to send you some photos of them for your intros but I'm not super tech savvy. Just recently figured out how to comment on here. Do you have an email or link I can send to?
Not at all- just did it to ensure it was good. It was easy enough and cheap enough not to worry. I'm sure the old one could have done another few years probably. Most gas (here anyways) is cleaner than in the past.
I haven't had to do mine- here's a video with some guys replacing theirs- access behind the pax seat. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YGMUHX99f0o.html
Great video: I liked the Hollywood style costume change from blue to red and back to blue again. It's always a good idea to have a sacrificial t-shirt on hand when turning a wrench... I have to ask, did you remember to remove the coffee grounds before installing the filter? If not does the car seem faster with that caffeine high? Hope that wasn't decaf, I heard the chemicals used to remove the caffeine could be harmful to your engine... Fathers Day is right around the corner: You should try sending out comments, hints and catchphrases to family members using the word "Lift" on a regular basis. If that doesn't work show this video on Fathers Day...
